Electricity usage seems high

Erm is that 60W with or without the compressor?

Should measure fridge/freezer over time including duty cycle cause man that compressor can spike when it starts and run much higher than simple idle.
It's possible, our fridge/freezer uses on average 730Wh per day (normal usage, meaused over an extended period of time). On days that we are out during the day and part of the evening the daily usage drops to 200Wh (8.3w per hour). It spikes to 60w on start up (if you can call that a spike).

It uses about 100Wh between 9pm and 6am in the morning on normal usage days.

It is A+++ model.

Ahhh... I can't handle it anymore
A unit is a kilowatt-hour... Not kilowatts... or watts or watts per hour! Please come on people, this is mybb not your church Facebook group!

Mybroadband is 100megabits, and I use 20 gigabyte-seconds per month!?!

Ps..
If you live on an estate and have some influence on the HOA. Quite possible to drop the domestic / home rate in CoCT (R3/kWh) and swap it for Small Power (R2/kWh)... Works for more than 10 dwellings in a cluster...
Give me a shout.

Well we are a 4 person household usually
City of Cape Town
2 geysers
3 TVs
Gaming console
3 Apple TVs
2 Alexas
2 air purifiers
1 desktop
2 laptops
2 tablets
1 fridge
1 freezer
Induction hob
Electric oven
Washing machine
Pool pump and jojo tank
Electric fence

691Kw
About the same here... 600kWh per month.
Only 1 geyser. Just all about that and how much hot water. All the TV's and alexas will do nothing Vs that!

Yup. An uphill battle with these guys. And most of them claim to be technocrats. Seems the SI units and standards used in SA are not in the syllabus for the 30% ers. It is mostly us old timers, that went through 2 "standards" changes in our life that know and care about these things.

He did not say he use them.... just that they have em :D

Exactly the fence has been on and off a bit eskom messed the battery and I am refusing to replace. We do use them all actually and multiple TVs are on all the time, nosey Alexas are also always on. Heavy uses are; TVs, washing machine - lots of laundry due to toddler and hob and kettles are also quite busy. Hob is induction and everything is highest energy efficiency rating. This is the average the winter months are roughly 920 and at least the last couple of months due to excessive AC use and laundry.

All you fundis pls tell me how much my fridge costs me monthly to run.. Also just had my geyser replaced.. Plumber said he put in a 3 kw and set it to 55 degrees(how much is this costing on a monthly basis more or less.. Two showers a day)

The exact numbers would depend on your energy charges which are determined by your provider and total use. As a ballpark estimate your fridge is about R130 per month and the geyser probably R450.

OK so I'm doing OK if my bill was R695 (excluding vat) last month.. According to my bill I get charged R1. 71 per unit

That's crazy cheap! You're lucky

Anyway, the fridge is R77pm and I'd estimate the geyser at R250pm.
Yeah I mostly use under 500 units which is the next tier up afaik.. I do use the air fryer almost every day for about 30 mins.. And the stove and oven once a week for pasta and baking

Electric fence is in the region of 10-15 watts

Bro, we live in a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom, just the basics.. nothing that pulls extreme power and I pay R3300.00 for the same amount of elec you buy.. I’m on the highest block tariff set by my landlord
So how many units (kWh) is that?

I live with a family member in a 2 bed, 2 bath unit.
There is a single geyser, a fridge, a washing machine and dishwasher.
Electronics include a TV, Android TV box, my media server and gaming PC (These two use R250 worth of electricity in a month because I only play Dota).
Stove is gas, we use gas heaters during winter. And oven usage is minimal at best (maybe once a week).

Our electricity bill is R1800pm (We get our electricity through Impact Meters) and we use approx. 650KWh in a month.
This seems a little high to me, but I would like to hear what others are paying for similar situation.
And I would appreciate any recommendations when it comes to reducing this amount.
650kWh and R1800pm - seems normal - you are paying less per kWh though - hmm...could be that sliding scale or area.

This is our current bill. 522kWh and 1944.49 - 3 bedroom, 2 bath but nothing on gas except during load-shedding. I would gladly take this because COJ is erratic in recent times. 2 months ago, I received a bill of 10K+ and they had some fluffy explanation when queried.

Is that watts per hour ;) or watt hours per.minute month :-D

You are right though, an elec fence should use basically nothing unless it's electrocuting someone.

Let's be sensible here and talk about kWh per month.

So 10W = 10 watts X 24 hours X 30 days = 7,200 -- i.e. 7.2 kWh per month

Fridges vary you can see the label.

Geysers are 2 part
1. The standing losses - power they use to stay warm -- based on size and rating

2. How much hot water you use. Basically at 60ish degrees that is
(And that includes water you use usefully... AND. water you waste as leaks or pressure overflows etc.)

So these are my last 4 purchases..

Edit: I Use about 760 KW in a month
Thats LOADS of power for your household.

I have 2 geysers, 4 fridges, 1 chest freezer, oven stove, tumble dryer, dishwasher etc and ran 740 at peak this year. 2 ppl that work from home, domestic + garden services.

Someone is running a small crypto mining operation or your geysers are set to 90 deg

OR someone is running loads of heaters

Lol the beauty part is, my stove and oven are completely gas..
then ref to my earlier post SOMETHING is very off then

Bro, I swear, I don’t understand.. I have a tv, geyser, kettle, deep fryer, lights, washing machine and plug points but nothing extreme.. got a gas stove, heater and oven.. my domestic also hand washes

Got a geyser timer switch that only puts my geyser on for 6 specific hours during a day.. and still a **** up..
Heater is massive power hog

Geyser for six hours at what temp another power hog

Those two alone are likely the issue.

You can set the geyser to 1.5h in the morning and 1.5h in the evening. I dont even run mine longer than 2h a day

Would it mean that my geyser is the main puller? I don’t have anything else that pulls electricity so hard
then its your geyser.
Go to the geyser there should be a thermostat and check that. Also walk round the whole house - its either your geyser or something else.

Sure there is no crypto mining that you are not aware of? A simple pc pulling a few kw and you wouldnt even know
