Elitehost down?

Apologies for continued frustration, we are working to get services restored and will keep clients updated via the status page.

I appreciate that you guys have been working to get the services up and running for hours now, but as someone mentioned previously "Surely you should have spare hardware on hand and be able to identify a hardware issue in less than 2 to 3 hours if that much..?"

Obviously you didn't, so there is no point in crying over spilt milk, but going forward I would like some guarantees that you are going to have spare hardware handy so that if things fail, you can quickly restore services. Please let us know what contingency plans you are going to put in place for the future.
 
Update - Apologies for the inconvenience, the initial restore of the raid array was unsuccessful.

Engineers are working to replace the raid card with a newer model and we believe this will positive outcome.

We will provide further updates as they become available.

Update - At this stage we have sourced a compatible raid card from a supplier in Cape Town and have made arrangements to have it flown to the data centre in Johannesburg at approximately 21h30 tonight. Engineers are on standby and we will immediately start further repairs on the server and give an update.

The contingency plan of restoring the server from backups is also taking longer than expected. In the mean time we are also working on a backup mail server to ensure that emails are collected in the interim.

We understand the extreme severity of this incident and our entire team is working as hard as possible to restore services.

Stride Mother to be honest I feel this is unacceptable. I understand sometimes all that can go wrong do - but it really feels like there's a lack of planning for this kind of situation on your side.

I'm really considering moving away from you because of this - I can understand a couple of hours down time, even 6 hours but not this long... We're losing business, clients are angry - they don't care why it's not working - also they don't believe that ANY problem can take this long? And I quote "wasn't a scenario like this planned for?"

Sorry dude, I should have made it clear - I don't work for Elitehost. I'm also a customer of theirs. I've just been putting their status updates here for others to see. Trust me, I'm also very bleak. I got off the phone with a client of mine about 30 minutes ago, and yeah, he's taking his business elsewhere, so I'm losing money because of this cockup.

I also really don't know how this could take so long to resolve. As for them flying a part from CPT to Joburg, I don't buy that at all.

Agree, also don't buy "flying" in a part doesn't make sense at all. Same here, been running around with a battery bank the whole day - clients checking in every hour (it seems) - and nobody believes me/office that ANYTHING can take so long to repair and why is there no backup's in place for such scenario - which is an extremely valid point? WHY NOT?

Step it up Elitehost, this is unacceptable. I would have replaced the "server" by now. We've got advertising out with website which is unavailable - makes a terrible impression.

How many hours is it now?
 
Definately giving up on trying to host anything in SA after this. Not even remotely good enough.
 
I have no horse in this race but I feel for elitehost, being in the server game I can relate to problems like this where everything goes wrong including backup channels taking ages to restore.

I also understand what its like to be on the client side and that is not easy either. I hope for everyone's sake that this gets resolved soon.
 
Really feel it for elitehost , they have been taking hits on all fronts. But , saying that they do not inspire much confidence at the moment . They recently done a WHM Cpanel update which caused one of my mysql table to corrupt, and they had no backup.Really hope they get this sorted , and no body looses any clients because of this .
 
At this time we have replaced the raid controller and the storage system has been rebuilt. No data has been lost. All services on rs04-pta have been restored.

We appreciate your patience as we worked through this and apologise for any issues this may have caused for you. An initial analysis has been completed, a full outage report will be made available in the next 24 hours.

Our websites on elitehost have been hacked. Elitehost are busy restoring. But we are downloading tons of email which seem to be old emails.
Has anyone one else been hacked?
