Elitehost down?

You don't even know what "don't care" is until you've had CyberSmart, AfriHost or Axxess as your ISP.
:crylaugh:

Had Afrihost, they useless, but not off for 2 days at a time with the minimum communication.

But agreed, they suck as well.

Propogation is the problem. And moving over to Hetzner so KonsoleH another issue :erm:

Well, there is a way around this too. I'm certain EH dns servers aren't being targeted. It seems it is the servers IP. And if I remember correctly EH said a few posts up that you can still access CPanel via their host name.

Once in CPanel set your A record to the new host IP, change name servers and bobs your uncle.

@Elitehost, to follow up on this:

Surely changing the IP of the server and doing a mass DNS update for domains on that server would be the simpliest/quickest way to get reseller-sites back online, rather than waiting out the ongoing attacks (which could go on forever)?

If this was done yesterday, all sites on those servers would have been up by yesterday evening and the IPs being attacked could stay blackholed for weeks.

Apart from the fact that you and everyone else would have to wait for DNS propagation, which could take up to 24 hours to go through, if the attacked started attacking domains, then that would be totally pointless as well.

Hence why this might not even be a DDoS attack to begin with...

whoah what the hell, just saw that this thread was created last year?

Thank you for patience and understanding during this DDoS attack.

The local and international block on RS04 has been removed. Access to the server has been restored. All services should be up and fully operational.

We are closely monitoring the network and server closely to ensure stability.

Please let us know if you run into any further issues.

That should be rephrased to "What if... This is in fact, not a DDoS attack".

Fair enough. It could be an overloaded server. Failing hardware, etc. But they said it's a DDOS attack. Let's believe them for a second, and let's say it is indeed a DDOS attack.

All I said was, that if they do change the website's on the server's IP addresses to a new one, then a DDOS attack would most probably still be imminent since the attackers most probably targeted the domains name(s) and not the IP's.

Looks like everything is working again. Fortunately my email was down, because I just received 50+ emails over the last 2 days from some seriously unhappy clients. Not all of them have my telephone number. Probably would have had a heart attack if I saw those coming in and was unable to do anything about it. Now the question is.. how are Elitehost going to stop this from occurring again. I'm not interested in anything for free, I just want to avoid such serious downtime again. That was ridiculous..

Would also want to know what they going to do to stop this from happening again.

@Elitehost?

So I wonder when this detailed report is coming out?

What about TTL? If a good TTL of 10-mins is in place, then surely it would be proactive enough?

Very few hosts / servers have a TTL of 10 minutes. But proxy servers and cheap routers generally don't adhere to those TTL's, insteasd they cache stuff for a long time. Change one of your own website's IP's quick, just after you visited the website in your web browser and see how long it takes to get an update

Hows things going now guys. all my sites are reponsive again & up.

@Elitehost when are you sending the brief as to what and why it happend and what are you guys going to do for it not to happen again.
