Ellies Cube vs Gizzu Portable

I need something to power my router and ONT for 4.5 hours. I am currently using a UPS and that is now only giving me just over an hour.

I am looking at either the Ellies Cube 150 Wh or the Gizzu Portable 155Wh. Which would you recommend and why? Is the Ellies worth paying more for?

They are both much of a muchness. Probably a bit of overkill for your use case

Note that it would be way more efficient to plug the router and ont directly into the 12v or 9v sockets. There are losses in converting to 220vac, then back down to 12vdc.

PS: just make sure that there is no break in power delivery when the mains power fails, else the router will restart when load shedding starts..
 
I bought a cheap modified sine wave inverter. R350 for a 300 watt inverter. And one of those little 7AH brick batteries they use in gate motors. Bought a deep cycle one for R400, don't know if they really better than just the normal ones. Powered the router and ONT last night for 4 hours using about 30% of its capacity.
The only thing that might be a bit more expensive(+-R800) is getting a good charger if you want those batteries to last long. They don't like being charged fast, so you need a charger that charge at 0.8-1amp. I had one. A car maintenance charger.

As for DC-DC. Mine and many people routers and ONT's are not the same voltage and most of these router backups have only one voltage output. And with my setup I have charged cell phones and tablets as well.
 
Why you taking DC -> AC -> DC

Why not look for proper DC -> DC router backups
I want something with a 3 point plug in case I do need to charge my laptop.

Are you mentioning this because a break in power could damage equipment or to prevent the wifi from being down for a bit?

If there is a break during switch-over, the equipment that is connected will restart, resulting in downtime

Get a power station for other things and a router UPS for your routers.
I'm using a Gizzu Dual DC UPS for my router + ONT and even after having a total of 8 hours of load shedding during the day yesterday, my router stayed powered up and has not been affected by load shedding at all.

That small white rectangular box has a 3 point plug and apparently there is no way to use the 9v or 12v sockets.

Same when load shedding is finished.

So power lost on inverter or DC-AC-DC, does not bother me, who cares it work and it works well and cost little and can do other things as well.

Looks like your Mikrotik is being powered by 24v POE so this will do the trick

The DC UPS stays connected permanently.
 
One thing I cant find on Ellis cubes is the max charge cycles. I know Power stations normally have 500-600 max cycles. (Gizzu says >500 no indication of how much greater)

Paying R3-4K for something that only gonna last a year in SA = no good economic sense.

Personally would go for something like what @PsYTraNc3 suggested for the routers, and maybe a cube later for the laptop to only use once in a while.

I did not see that anywhere! I thought the whole point of the lithium battery vs the acid battery in a UPS was that it has a longer lifespan.

80% capacity after max cycles though.

also, there are 2 types of lithium, NMC (800 cycles) and LFP(3000 cycles).

It is longer Acid = 250

Problem is most power stations use 18650 that is not the best idea when it comes to daily 2-3 times charge.

I bought the Gizzu and got it delivered yesterday morning. I'm using now for the first time proper to power 2 x 24" Dell monitors since power went of at 12, so so far it has been running for 1 hour and 19 minutes and it has 90% battery left and says it can keep going for 39 more hours.

Nice. Did you get the 155Wh or a bigger one?
