Hi there.

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this type of question, but here goes....

I want to to use google's smtp for sending email from another address, but cannot figure out how to do it.

Fact:
telkomsa.net users cannot send emails when they are on non telkom networks.
I phoned 10210 and talked to a specialist, who told me this is true.

OK.
This should not be a problem, there are lots of other SMTP servers available out there right?
I decided to use gmail, since I already have a gmail account.

So, I got gmail to "pop" the telkom inbox, had to do this, since telkom does not want to forward it for me.
My current "package" does not have that privilege.

When I receive these emails, and I want to answer them, I want the addressee to see the reply is from the same email account that he send it to. So I need to add this address as one of my addresses in my gmail settings. capish?

Well, I am sure I was able to do it before in gmail, but I cannot seem to find the setting anymore?
(only the option to send my gmail via telkom's SMTP - which I do not want to do!)

Anyone out there able to help me please?

How does that work?

Hi OP

They lied to you....

Go to mail more settings.
Look for outgoing mail tab.
Select the option to logon to incoming mail server to send...

I have many clients with old telkom mails they wishto keep and they are on other ISPs...

You just need to change your outgoing server to <ISP's outgoing server>

I got it working eventually.
Possibly the smtp server was down the first time I tried it.

But - gmail tells met it will be using smtp.telkomsa.net to send mail, now i wonder if I'm not on an ADSL line if it will still work.
Will try that later.

Gmail send a confirmation request to the telkom address, and I had to type that in. Now it works. (But I'm still testing from my telkom adsl line - the proof will be in the pudding if I send it via another ISP)
