Email is dying

Email is so ... last year. When it comes to my trusted network of contacts there are very often better ways to communicate with them.

Personally I prefer email still, call me old fashioned :D All these social networking sites do is to encourage people to post the most irrelevant hogwash, like I care **** all that you had rice crispies for breakfast this morning! :wtf:

:D

Someone watched or read SocialNomics! Not necessarily an accurate view of the web as it is a marketing effort to sell a book. I know many people who find social media/networks intrusive and don't use them as a communication channel.

Can't stand it when people use social networking sites as their primary channel of communication with me. I tend to ignore them. eMail.

Facebook is not going to replace email until they offer a means of communicating with people outside of the sphere and until they offer some sort of organisation to sent/received messages.

Twitter is still the best way to let a large group know you've just passed gas.

The author of this article clearly does not work at an ISP where email just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Dear Alasstair,

The world consists of more than just Farmville users.

Kind regards,
w1z

Based on your single opinion I would say that email is dying for you specifically. I find it more and more beneficial every day.... Try finding a specific message or detail on facebook from 2-3 years ago and see how easy it is..... not very.

Peace!

You are not the only one. I prefer email and find Twitter to merely dumb down any conversion to a level which most life forms can understand.

I prefer email and probably always will. Or at least until something else comes along that really replaces email.
BUT...
Twitter does have its perks. It shouldn't be seen as a tool for two people to communicate with each other. It is really difficult to follow a conversation on Twitter. And very irritating if people do it.

We at Rugby15 use it only for Live score updates, breaking news and notifying followers of new articles.

Not dying for me at all. I don't have any clients on Facebook as I reserve that for family and friends only, so the only way I keep in contact with clients are via email.

I also prefer my trusty Gmail to anything else. If I could communicate with the rest of the world via Gmail it would be heaven! :p

social networking and emails serve different purposes, i will always prefer an email rather than letting private stuff go public on facebook.

We also use it for news updates, but RSS may be better for that. But we can not argue with its popularity...just strange that people are happy to be restricted to 140 characters. Only enough to express an emotion or give a basic opinion.

Lately I tend to stay as far away as possible from any social networking site. I think it's about 10 months since I last logged into my Facebook account. I sit in front of my work PC for 9 hours a day. If you want to communicate, send me an email. At night and weekends, call me on my cell.

That is where it works like bomb for us. With our Live Score Updates it is extremely easy and so instant. Also nice for the followers to just retweet the scores and updates to their followers, should anyone ask.
And we rarely need more than 140 characters.(but I can understand that it will be frustrating for a lot of people). But that is why Twitter and Facebook are just two of our "outlets".

Regarding RSS - Very nice and I use it extensively, but I doubt the average rugby fanatic has that set up on his PC or smartphone
