Plan1: Run to North Africa (dodge the bullets and war lords), take a ship to greece and run to Calais in France, wait for a truck and you're in the UK.
Plan 2: Take a ship to Brazil, swim up the Amazon, make your way to Mexico, dodge the gangsters, learn spanish on your way (it will be helpfull), once you're in Mexico, cross to Texas and refuse to leave the USA as it is your right to stay there!

If you have no special skills, qualifications or resources and have no aspiration to attain them, then you're not the kind of person who would go and work in another country. That's a very defeatist attitude. Gain a skill, so you can go somewhere and contribute to society. No they don't want people who are going to come and rely on public funds.

What do you love about SA?

I love the people in SA, the friendly relations, both personal and business which I enjoy with people of all races. I enjoy the ridiculously cheap living costs, where I can go anywhere in the country and sit in any hotel I like for as long as I like, eat at whichever restaurant I please, without so much as thinking of the cost. I love the fact that in the midst of "winter" in South Africa, it's still nearly as warm as a summer's day in London. I love the mostly untapped business opportunities I have had the privilege of participating in, both here and in neighboring countries. I love the fact that the rules here (immigration, licensing department, home affairs, council, etc) can be "bent" for a small fee, this gives me unparalleled freedom to make as much money as I like without worrying much about red tape.

I was just pulling you up on your post that:

Anyone can go wherever the hell they want. You can leave at a moments notice as well, you're not imprisoned.

Which is a load of rubbish, short of walking to Libya and then paying people smugglers to get to Italy they haven't a hope in hell of going anywhere.

Firstly, I didn't think you were talking about yourself. My reply isn't directed at you, its directed at the "average citizen" you've conjured up. Walking to Libya? Are you serious? Just because you don't have freedom of movement, does not mean you cannot go somewhere. You apply for the correct visa and you go. If you are unable to apply for a visa for whatever reason (for instance, you're a street sweeper and have no skills whatsoever), then no other country is going to want you. This brings me back to my original point above.

So you are agreeing that your original post was wrong?

"anyone can go wherever they want" is actually nonsense, the average person without any special skills or trade isn't going anywhere, by your own example the street sweeper is stuck sweeping the streets of Joburg and is never going to end up settled in another country.

I suppose Syria will take anyone , or any ****ty country that doesn't have anything going for it.

Maybe we should be more specific and state any country worth emigrating to won't take anyone.
I'm applying for my Aus visa and with my BTech, busy studying honours and 8 years work experience I just make the bar and that's only because I did exceptionally well in my IELTS test (8.5). Got 65 points and you need at least 60 to apply. You ain't getting in with matric and no work experience I can tell you that. Same for America, UK and similar countries where people would actually want to go.

Technically Velenoso is correct. But practically it is a different story.
