Hi guys,

I want to find out if its possible to use different software with these units or is each unit designed only for certain software ?

Our company has a few of these but the software is complete POS!

Its as if they hired a high school student to do all the programming in Delphi. No programming rules are followed and the interface is a mess. On some forms the form caption weren't even changed. So its also confusing having NewForm1, NewForm2 etc... Open at the same time.

The scanner itself runs on linux.

If you can get the 'Clockings' in a text file from the unit, some of the software will be able to import it. Not sure if any of the companies will just sell their software though.

AFAIK units like fingerprint readers and hand geometry scanners tend to be manufactured to be used with different vendor's software but the software itself has to be made to be compatible with the device (either by hard coding or with a plugin/driver for that device.)
I don't know whether any of the hardware vendors openly share API's or other details for interfacing to their hardware but I do know that some sell an SDK for developers' use.
