England 2018 bid defeated

Why do people assume that the world cup in Qatar will be hosted during the peak heat of summer?

Also, Russia can raise the money on the drop of a hat with all the oil, gas and other natural resources they have.

FIFA are a very confused organisation...

There was resentment too that the strong technical merits of England’s bid – it was the most highly-rated on technical and economic grounds – had apparently been ignored.

Cameron, who spent three days pressing England’s case in Zurich, said Fifa had ignored the bids merits: “According to Fifa we had the best technical bid and the strongest commercial bid and the country is passionate about football. But it turns out that is not enough.”

....
The choice of Russia and the resounding success of Qatar, the two bids with the largest budgets and the lowest marks in Fifa’s technical assessment, also brought questions over the decision.

Need I say more?

Why did they announce both bids at the same time ?

I'm sure that when we had the sa bid it was 8 years before and we were the only one....

Well done Russia

Agreed. I actually view the Euro Championships much more exciting and harder than the world cup.

Yip, me too
The WC is only really competed between Europe and South America anyway, rest of the continents just make up the numbers

In that case then Russia needs the WC more than England does..

They probably do
I dont understand where Qatar comes into the picture though, they obviously paid for their votes

That idiot Terry Paine said the exact same thing the year Greece won it. It continued to be a complete and utter snore. It's only eurocentrics who think that, there's only a handful of strong football nations on europe.

This perceived strength is all imagined.

*Points at England, Simpons bully laugh* HA HA!

Since Moscow is in the Asian part of Russia, Russia is classified as an Asian country more than European

Actually Moscow is in Asia... anything west of the Urals. Sorry but, by that logic I guess Russia is more European than Asian.

That's bull****. There are no easy games in the Euro Champs.

They could have the best technical bid, the best infrastructure and whatever else they want but they're still a bunch of pricks and that's why they lost

My favorite tweet so far, from Reuben Goldberg:

"The Brits seem convinced the pm, the prince and the player would hook it up. They have no idea how those 3 actually lost it for them"

If the best technical and commercial bids were chosen it would almost always go to the developed nations...sort of like it has been doing since the history of the WC. Only recently it has gone to Asia and Africa. Now it's going to Eastern Europe and Middle East for the first time.

Well FIFA did get round that in 2010 and 2014 when they made nations from a certain continent bid with each other, thereby eliminating the possibility of Europeans getting it all the time.
