Morris is not good enough to bowl at this level. In all the international formats that we have witnessed him bowling in, including this Test, we have seen ample evidence that there are several domestic bowlers ahead of him. If his bowling wasn't this bad, plus CSA were not cowards and prepared a proper pitch, Morris' runs would have mattered far less than his bowling. England should have held on to AB, Faf&Mortis catches. Had they done that then made is follow on everyone here would have agreed that Morris was indeed a liabilty to be avoided in future.

On Morris I am not 100% convinced on his place as a bowler, but that aside, the batting and catching is a big plus for me. We have been lacking in the field, and those catches win matches.

Secondly, Amla and Bavuma were also dropped by England. Your agenda is so obvious that even a blind man can see it.

I had them both in but editted them out. They had scored a lot of runs by the time they were dropped. Person who shouldn't be there in that list is probably Faf but I'll check...not easy on these mobile devices. Alviro was great in the slips. That didn't keep him in the team. JP: s a gun fielder that didn't keep him in the team. Faf almost got dropped, he's a world class fielder. If Morris plays the Proteas will have a non-strike bowler who can't contain, but will be bowlig alongside strike bowlers Morkel&Rabada. It's affecting Morkel be ause he's no longer going all out but looking to contain. If they prepare another flat pitch them might as well kick Moris out and bring in Phangiso or Harmer to contain. Allister Cook is due a big long innings.

“We both have very similar careers – the first time we do play international cricket, everyone doubts you. Either because of the colour of your skin, even though you’ve got the stats to back it up domestically, everybody doubts you for various reasons. The way he’s played, for me it’s testament to the environment we have in the team.

Amla talking about helping Bavuma through what he went through in the initial stages of his career. Great to see

Guys, from where I am looking in, MyBBO makes a lot more sense than most. At least he is consistent.
As an example, and it is on record reading back, when the news broke and no reasons were given yet, many of you 'made up' your own reasons. Later, after his interview/statement...oh, "of course, of course...that is what I meant"
An example:
Something is fishy and going down in the camp me thinks.
I share this sentiment.

Can't believe he resigned mid series.
Wtf

Then to counter what MyBBO 'thinks' happenned in the background (remember, everybody here is entitled to think for themselves and be cynical about it), ...of course "Hashim is so honorable that he would not make up a white lie".....all the other devout muslims with beards of course are to be treated with high suspicion ;-)

The older you get the more cynical you become and it has paid off most times for me. We do not know if Amla will tell a white lie, but beard or no beard, what the honorable Hashim will do first and foremost is to be uncontroversial. He has never, AFAIK, been controversial. Show me someone who is a straight talker and you have a controversial person, the corollary in order to be uncontroversial, you will have to bend the truth at some point---maybe leave some stuff out, leave some people out of decisions and so on.

Not saying for sure he is bending it like Beckham here, but one incontrovertable truth is that in order to please all, at some point you have to do so.

Thank you! You read the Amla-Bavima link above, and Domingo's rant over here http://mini.iol.co.za/sport/cricket/proteas/amla-not-shown-enough-respect-domingo-1967579, then you understand cricketing reasons, love for the team, or his "gentlemanly" natire were not the primary motivating factors. Amla was overruled and disrespected several times, something not likely to be done to Smith before or AB now. Certain suggestions put to him without thinking twice, I just can't see some of the guys in the team making to Smith. That's why Domingo highlights Amla's greatness and questions if people respect it.

Was Convenor Zondi at the press conference? Has he been quoted somewhere on captaincy frontrunners? Does anything player related happen in e.g. CA without the chief voice of Rod Marsh, or Inverarity before him?

So it does comes down to Amla resigning himself because he is not a natural strong leader? No conspiracy then? So Smith and AB is/was better leaders. Thanks for the confirmation.

Semantic argument that...I tell my mates that a 'white lie' is a 'lie', just the consequences differ. I have no problem at all to ring someone to whom I have accepted an invite and say, "mate, I am sure there would be another time, your place or mine, but I have to take up the opportunity to go to xyz, sorry for late notice"...It actually works well.
Everybody knows when you say "Sorry, can't come because --insert stupid reason here--"

White lies, failure to disclose etc are all lies.

He may be a walker, but there is more to it.

BTW, you can be a strong leader, but still be ganged up against if the numbers are against you. Not sure it changed through the Smith years, but under Pollock I was personally told by some on the receiving end that the dressing room was very divided.

Good night from Oz

Elgar
De Kock
Amla
AB
Faf
Bavuma
Morris
Steyn
Piedt
Rabada
Morkel

Worth a try I think.

that's pretty much the best compromise I can think of short of re-picking the squad. If there's something in the pitch, Morris could come into his own up here and if there isn't, Piedt will be called on to bowl a lot of overs and keep it tight. Morris has really put his hand up and maybe he isn't long term but when someone performs, you gotta respect it.

I agree with your take on Hashim, though. A captain needs to be outspoken and the source of inspiration.
No such problems with Cook&England. Michael Clarke learned the hard way. Now so far they are spanking the Proteas in their own backyard, and they haven't even played their best cricket yet - Cook, Root&Jimmy all still to fire.

Good night from Oz

If Amla says he resigned because he believes that someone else can do a better job / is better suited to the job and that he wants to concentrate on his batting, that's good enough for me.

Calling him a liar is bloody disrespectful to the man and anyone who does so should be ashamed of themselves.

You and MyBBOutk simply have your axes to grind - I was fortunate enough to have been inoculated against that old SACOS mentality early in my life.

If it was up to me I'd be showing Lorgat, Zondi and Domingo the door - useless trio

Cheers
