England tour to SA: 2015

^^, time will tell. It all looks good in the bowling department when teams are collapsing in a dead rubber.

Anyway, 4 bowlers is fine if Steyn and Rabada \ Philander are in there...we should be able to take wickets pretty regularly with those guys in the team. The selection headache starts when one or more are not around.

8 dismissals and a century for de Kock aswell...well done young man

Yeah. In all the (justified) hype about KG, it's easy to forget Quinny's contribution, Amla's almost twin 100's and Stephen Cook's effortless ton on debut. Excellent perfomances all

As you have said, so many good contributions and in the hype I too have forgotten. For once it was a team performance. Not remotely perfect by any stretch of the imagination... but this team and effort was a lot closer to it than we have been all summer.

...

Great performances by Rabada, Amla, Cook, De Kock.

Which one? Are you a traitor? Oh. Wait. You are referring to Stephen. Sorry. :o :p

We didn't pick the right team and this one wasn't 100% right either with duminy getting picked but much better then the others picked so far this series.

The upside is that when Steyn and Philander are fit and back in the team, the team sheet will look a lot stronger. The proviso is that the selectors don't go back pick some brain-fart like FduP.

A fighting fit XI

A good team and starting IX, provided all are fit and firing. I also like the fact that you have gone with Stiaan van Zyl. He definitely deserves an opportunity in the middle order ahead of FP and JP. By his inclusion to the team, it provides another bowling option and I believe that he has the ability to play a holding role if needed.

...

Bavuma - Yes
Kagiso - Yes - brilliant - 13 - amazing
QdK - Yes
Cook - Yes - finally a specialist
Amla - Yes he's back
Morkel - teetering on the edge
AB - not sure if he should be captain, but let's see

Hope not to see Faf or JP playing player for the Proteas again.

Like you say, esteemed Sir, I too hope that we move on from Faf and JP. This is an important opportunity to move forward. The pressure of holding onto the No. 1 ranking is no longer ours and we can well use this time to build on the talent we have knocking on the door right now.

Notwithstanding his age, Cook is a must as specialist opening batsman. He still has a few more years in him yet.

No at nr7 it allows him to play with total freedom. Same reason why aus never moved gilly to nr6.

But one feels he is to good a batsman batting way down at 7, he wont have any proper support if his partner is dismissed.

Australia actually had 6 better batsman, we don't have that privilege. I would bat him at 5/6.

I would like to see the team management taking some of the players (e.g. KG, Stiaan, Bavuma, Piedt and others) and doing some academy like training with them when things get a little quieter. Working on strength and stamina, technique and mental strength, and making sure we hit the ground running in Season 2016/2017.

No, 7 is good - think about it, he comes in, the nr 6 knows that he can switch to a holding role and let QdK go for it.

Yep.

How to run between the wickets (Bavuma, I'm looking at you)

I think a stint or two in county cricket would do wonders for these players' games.

Im sure he will be a success at number 7, just feel its a wasted talent, Boucher was a good number 7. QDK batting is a few levels above that of Boucher.

QdK should be coming in just ahead of the new ball. That puts me firmly in the #7 camp.

QdK has the talent to be a game-changer. He just needs to up his mental game.... he could easily surpass Boucher as SA's most successful keeper

Ok, so it's almost ODI time. What's the ideal starting XI?

1: de Kock
2: Amla
3: du Plessis
4: de Villiers
5: Rossouw
6: Duminy
7:
8: Steyn (assuming he's fit)
9: Rabada
10: Morkel
11: Tahir

That number 7 spot (usually the bowling allrounder) is a tricky call. Who do we have in that department? Off the top of my head I can think of David Wiese, Ryan McLaren and after his recent exploits, Chris Morris. Wayne Parnell still in the frame? Think 7 would be too high for him. You could always go for an out and out batsman but then you're asking Japes to bowl his full quota of ten overs as the fifth recognised bowler.

Article on news24 states that Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander is ruled out for all 5 of the ODI's and that Morkel/Rabada will be rested for a couple of the first ones. So it is going to be a relatively young/inexperienced bowling line up for the ODI's

Hate to say it, but i will go for Parnell.

Also do we really want Faf in the ODI team, he is just going to fck that up as well.

1.qdk
2.amla
3.faf
4.rr
5.ab ( he prefers batting lower down in odi's and finishing)
6.miller
7.duminy
8.morris
9.Radaba
10.Morkel
11.Tahir

Yes 5th bowler is a worry but batsman win odi and t20's so this would be my team. JP and AB will just need to find 10 overs between them, else pick behardien ahead of faf.

In that case

7.Parnell
8.Mclaren
9.Morris / Wiese
10.Viljoen / De Lange

Think they will rest Morkel as well, they already said before the last test he is being burned out.

Behardien cant possibly do worse than Faf, Plus he can bowl.

He will rest some of the games as will kg but he won't rest the whole series especially not with steyn and vern ruled out.
