English Prelim

That definition of racism in the text book is SO blatant, I really don't know how he was allowed to get away with it.

Lol, I didnt say it was true, I said it was quoted from a Newspaper.
 
What did the other students have to say about the paper? And your English & History teachers?

I'd really like to know for sure who set this paper, and how widely it was written.

The Western Cape haven't written mocks yet... but our prelims weren't from the government last year :/ Or were they?

It's not a definition. It's a keynote.

The long way of writing this would be :

Key Term [open box] Racism - how the racist beliefs of the whites in power that whites were somehow superioer coloured their judgement and their beliefs with regards to the rest of the population. [close box]

In other words, what they're telling you is that they are dealing with the impact that the racism of the people in power had on history. That's what makes it a key term. It's not trying to redefine the concept of racism or to promote the idea that only whites can be racist.

Grrrrrrrr! That definition gets my goat! OUP too - first time I have seen such trash published by them. The bit about the Great Trek is to some extent true IIRC.

My kids have been taught that in the 80s SA was "ungovernable" - I always say that that is when Dad was in the Army making sure things were quite governable! LOL. Stuff this revisionist history!

This textbook was written by more than one person, and it likely went through a couple of editors, so it's difficult to pinpoint exactly who is responsible for writing what. Things like this do slip into textbooks :mad:
