Epic Chinese Android phone

So, I've been waiting 6 weeks for the Jiayu g3 - http://www.antelife.com/free-shippi...re-4-5-qhd-capacitive-touch-screen-black.html

Got an email from them suggesting a replacement phone:
Dear,

Thanks for waiting for JIAYU G3. Because of complicate producing processes, JIAYU Company now can not provide a large number of phones in a short time.We apologize for this bad news.
But we don't want to ask you to keep waiting all the time, so would you consider changing to UMI X1 which has similar charactaristics. Please see the details on the link below.
http://www.antelife.com/umi-x1-mtk6...-0-8mp-camera-gps-wifi-smart-phone-black.html

The same with JIAYU G3, this phone is 4.5 inches, MTK6577 dual core 1.0GHz, 1G RAM + 4GB ROM, 8.0MP rear camera & 2.0M front cameras. Besides, there are both black and white colors
available, and we have this in stock, can send out within 2 days.

You can see that this phone is more expensive than G3. In order to compensate you for waiting a long time, we are pleased to make a discount on this phone. The best price we can offer
is $205. Would it be OK that we send you UMI X1 to replace G3. If yes, could you please pay for the price difference? Please send payment to price different to [email protected] . If you don't want to change, you can either wait for G3 or just cancel the order. We will be pleased to refund your money.

Please reply ASAP and let us know. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

The specs are basically the same except for the battery. Jiayu 3g is 2750mAh while the UMU X1 is only 1750mAh. :(

I will also need to pay an additional $18, but atleased the phone will be shipped immediately.

What do you think?

I would wait for sure, an extra 1k mha will be well worth the wait

The pain of waiting for the Jiayu ends when it finally arrives.
The misery of a battery with about 60% of the capacity will last you the entire lifetime of your relationship with the phone.

...which seems like the better deal?

Nice........ It just begs the question. Why don't we see more of these phones in South Africa? Sure you can get them from the Pakistan cell shops at inflated prices but unless you take the risk like a couple of people here and on other websites you will be stuck with the brand names only. I think these chinese phones are epic. Android opened so much doors cause no matter the make of the phone if it runs android it can do a lot of stuff no matter the hardware.....

Lets say someone does decide to sell these in SA....what do you guys think is a reasonable price/ mark up taking into consideration all the cost involved and the store also making a small profit and providing a decent warranty?

We (Gadgets2Go) are looking into this market but want to know from the public what they see as acceptable pricing etc...

So let me know and we will bring them in hopefully at a reasonable price for both parties

True, I've already waited 6 weeks. What is another couple of weeks. It is for my daughter. She has been bugging me for a new phone, but she doesn't know that I've ordered one. :p

Got hold of ante life yesterday to ask them what's happening. Paid them an extra $34 for DHL and they shipped my g3 out yesterday. Hopefully will have it in a few days. Will update...

I think the problem is that people won't see the value over ordering directly. Warranty is less of a concern to me when I am paying R2 000 for a similar phone that would cost me R7 000 or R8 000. That being said paying R1 500 for Ainol Novo 7 (knowing that I can get it in a decent amount of time) is fine by me knowing I can get it for R1 041.26 + import. So if you are making any reasonable money on those then use the same formula.

Personally I think you going to have a bad experience that will put you off the Chinese stuff for good. Rather spend a bit more and get something from Ainol. My Aurora cost me R1500 landed (couriered). Took me 3 days to get it and I haven't looked back. Initially I bought it for the kids, but I find myself using it more than them!

I can't see you getting value for R650 :(

Good luck though.

It's obviously an HTC clone, looks almost exactly like my sensation which I got for just over 2000 bucks..

I prepared myself for the worst... but its mainly just for browsing and youtube.
Will have a look @ the Auora

I hope they not messing around. They gave me a Dhl tracking number but for the past 2 days can't seem to trace it. It just doesn't exist. Anyways let's hope it comes through.
If it does, I will be selling my G2+. If anyone interested let me know. It's the same processor and ram as the the g3. The mtk6577 dual core processor with 1GB ram. Using a 64gb microsd card with no hassle.

Can you give us an idea of what the price will be, when Gadgets2Go sells it.

I did order a g3 but still waiting on it. Try were supposed to send with DHL. Then they messed up and said they can't. They then said they sent it with ups. Now they say that ups can't deliver to me. I think they messing around coz they have no stock on the g3.
Concerning the g2. I ordered 2 of them. 1 arrived around 2 weeks ago. Using that one at the moment. The other one arrived yesterday.
