EPL 2011 Summer Transfers

Is Gasperini any good?

Yes, did a very good job with genoa taking from serie c2 right to 5 spot in serie a. But this will be his first chance at a big club so we will see what he can do. He certainly a good manager and has proven himself. Only time will judge whether he can succeed at a big club or not.

Argentine sources also now saying ricky alvarez to inter nearly a done deal and should be done early next week. According to them javier zanetti has played a crucial role in convincing ricky to chose inter above arsenal.

Noooooo idea.. Very odd.

Maybe a metaphorical "final nail in the coffin" of AFC? That's the only thing that springs to mind. Maybe the homegrown quota as well... since Clichy is "homegrown" under the current rules.

Final nail because arsenal sold their blunder prone LB who failed to live up to his potential? Boohoo for Arsenal! Keown said 7 mil for clichy is good business, and I have to agree with him. Thanks for the good times clichy, and we'll forget about the bad. Good luck with playing half a season at ****ty!

I agree. Good business by Arsenal, bad bad business by City. They could've bought anyone practically, why him?

Clichy is not a massive loss. How Wenger replaces him is the scary thing. Gibbs is not te answer. The Jenkinson boy he signed is a right back iirc. We'll have to wait and see.

Yep - Clichy only has a year left on his contract. If he stayed at AFC for the next season he could have left on a free transfer. This way AFC get some money back.

I think he cost 200k back in 2003. 8 years of service, and then cashing in on 7 mil with one year left on his contract. I really think its great business. Let's be honest, I think we've seen the max potential of Clichy. I read a very interesting article which I cannot seem to find. It was purely subjective but it ranked Clichy as the 2nd best LB in the last season, Baines was first. This was based on successful tackles, intercepts, passes, crosses etc. I don't think it catered much for howlers, which lets be honest, Clichy had a few of them.

Coentrao would've been a great replacement but beside the fact he's signed for RM, I don't think Arsenal would match a third of his value (30 mil Euro).

Crosses? lol
Im sure Clichy scored negative points there :)

Apparently RM has signed Coentrao.

Yeah price was €30 million.

FIGC has increased the non eu limited for clubs in italy, each side can now sign 2. Milan have used 1 of their's on taiwo. All the other big clubs still have 2 spots left. Both jonathan and alvarez that inter are very close to signing have italian passports.

Im glad we didnt get Alvarez, I'd rather see the cash go towards someone like Mata
