EPL 2011 Summer Transfers

Don't stress, you guys have Torres.

Um... no thanks.

1. They are different types of players. Well, maybe it's difficult for you as an Arsenal supporter to comprehend since everyone needs to play with a similar style at Arsenal...

2. YOU DON'T HAVE A CHOICE! Wenger is a smart man, he'll Kalou, no problem!

Seems like an agreement has been reached for Zhirkov. 13.2 million from Anzhi Makhachkala, the same people who were willing to bid 50+ million for Neymar. These Russian clubs are being very aggressive...

I thought he was the better performer of the chelsea bunch when everyone was failing

Just a quick question to all the Chelsea fans out there. 1stly, did you guys buy any players this transfer window and 2ndly, do you think that the squad you guys have are strong enough to contest for the league without buying any players.

We bought Thibaut Courtois and Oriel Romeu. Whether we can challenge or not - I think we can, particularly since all we really needed was some injection of youth in the team last year when our established stars went missing. something to kick the oldies in the ass and say "Your position is under threat". don't forget that Torres and Luiz were winter signings and this is their first full season with Chelsea (not to mention Sturridge being given a greater role and McEachran shining). Rajkovic (who is brilliant but can't get a work permit) would have been part of the squad last year if he had been allowed to play and it seems that Chelsea will push for him to gain a temporary work permit which means we have much more depth in the squad than last year. There is huge competition on the left side of defense with two awesome youngsters behind a powerhouse like Cole (who already said he doesn't mind being rested to give them a chance so they will get more games this year than they did last year).

Oh yeah, and as far as tactics are concerned it seems AVB is drilling three formation into the team just so we can change up if needs be (433, 4231 and 442 diamond).

I think that with United refreshing their squad, City buying Aguero and Chelsea focusing on youth a little more than the last seasons it'll be a very interesting season. I can hardly wait for it to start!

See... this is what pisses Arsenal fans off so much. Though I personally think that Chez could turn out to be an amazing player if Wenger buffs his defence... otherwise he'll fail just like Almunia before him...

Remember it's also the job of the GK to keep communicating with the defence... It all starts from the back up

Totally besides the point. If a defender is bad, you can communicate with him all you want, it ain't gonna make a difference.

I was inferring on if the goalkeeper is bad at communicating then it doesn't matter if the defence is good :p

Disagree. A bad defender in a good position (awkward position for the opposition) makes a difference. A good keeper with experienced positional sense can direct the defenders, even the 'bad' ones.

I don;t think Chez is such a bad communicator as he is inexperienced. this experience will be gained much more easily if he had decent defenders.

Chez hasn't got the experience and would gain lots of it by playing with decent defenders. The fact that he possibly could be Schmeical good needs to be taken into account and he should be given decent defenders to work with while he is developing.

But a bad defender with bad positional play is going to get the keeper into trouble too often. Which is smokey's point. A lot of what makes a good defender is instinctual positioning, the keeper can't always direct defence, and a lot of times there isn't time to.

Defense is a chain with many links. Imo the keeper is not currently Arsenals weakest link. Unless Wenger is planning on giving Almunia another go.

We need to sign 2 decent defenders, 2 CB or a CB and LB.

If that doesn't happen I fear our young pole is in for a difficult season.
