The latest version of the ESET security suite (Including NOD32) has been released.

You can read more about it here: http://www.eset.co.za

You can get a free trial download here: Http://www.eset.co.za/download/

There are a few significant changes and added new features, which can also be read about in the above links.

Enjoy:)

I switched from Norton to ESET - speeded up my computer start-up quite dramatically. One thing which irritates me about this program though, is the way in which it places its signature at the bottom of every email. Is there a way of turning that off?

One thing that is annoying me with ESS... Sometimes in Guild Wars, when I load an area or mission, my networking stops working, I have to disable and then reenable the NIC to get any connectivity. If I disable the ESS firewall first, all is fine.

The really odd thing about this situation, is that the networking on my other pc appears to freeze as well when the above occurs.

Hmmm, as I was typing the above. I was downloading an 'update' after enabling 'Test Mode' in the ESS update options. While most modules were updated it seems the firewall one was downgraded. A quick test in GW, and everything appears fine. Will have to play around a bit more...

Found an answer to my own question on http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=237529
Enter advanced setup tree. Highlight email client protection. Where it says append tag messages to received and read mail and append tag messages to sent mail click on the drop down boxes underneath each one and select never.

It works!

As that thread points out, though, this only prevents future tagging i.e. incoming and outgoing emails from then on. The tags already appended on all the emails already in the system cannot automatically be removed.

The tag part is nice I guess to have a visual way of saying that the e-mail is clean, but it can quickly add up if you have it enabled in a lan environment. All the back and forth can add tons to a simple text message. Learnt that the hard way at my last job when using NOD.

Apart from that, we running verion 4 at my new job, and it is light years ahead of the old F-Secure we were using.

I haven't had a computer work out going from V3 to V4 since i last messed last with Windows ME....what a friken nightmare.
System restore to get V4 back off - change permissions to manually remove files...safe mode....Windows Installer errors...with V4 running it lags on a website, go into setup to make changes no you ain't admin & permitted to do that when i am.... on and on and on.

DO NOT try & install over V3 with V4 & i think one also needs to follow the manual steps for removal of V3 also.......yet to win & system restore may get used to take me back to V3 yet again if i can't beat it.
Vista 32bit.

NOD32 FTW!!! (I've said it before and I'll say it over and over!!! :) )

However, I ONLY use the Anti Virus version, not the other full package thing...

Eish...System Restored the PC back to normal/Uninstall V3 via uninstall/reboot/manually remove files + reg entries/Reboot/Redownload V4 (34Mb)for the 3rd time from a differant site/Close anything running/Run the V4 file & get hit at the end with "A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:/Windows/Installer/ess_nt32_enu.msi
V4 i am OVER your BS
This is the so called smart security suite not the stand alone AV
Will leave it till my patience grows back

After continued attempts and getting the same error i stumbled upon a post that reckoned to copy/paste/run the .msi from within C:/Windows/Installer.
I did that and it then would complete an install finally but all the modules weren't working.
I then ran a repair of the same .msi file but using one i put in C:/
That didn't fix it.
I then uninstalled using Windows uninstall then rebooted.
Then reinstalled using the .msi in C:/ and it finally works properly.

I dunno whether its Vista SP2 or that installer file Esets got but it ain't friendly when the 2 meet.
