I have 2 kids and 3 adults in my house and use 500KW a month at a cost of R2000, with stove/air fryer used every night and washing machine going daily

If this 30%+ hike is approved, im going to bridge my meter and enjoy free power for a mere R100 a month service charge

The problem is that most of the households who can afford to go off-grid, will not pay anymore, means that the people like me, who don't have a place/space to run the same solar system, will have to keep on paying Eskom a ludicrous amount of money to keep the lights on.

I mean, I only use like 5-7 units a day, and a 5kw inverter with a 5kw battery will last me a day or two on a single charge.

Eskom's proposals for radical electricity pricing would cause pensioners and other low-consumption users to spend more than they can afford, forcing them into debt and, eventually bankruptcy. This is criminal, robbing the poor. The EFF should fight this if they are really Economic Freedom Fighters.

As I said elsewhere - the stupid buggers do this, the complex will start selling electricity to the inhabitants. 1xbase fee, instead of 200xbase fee. Eff Eskom trying to be greedy. Only ones who will lose out are freehold property.
