Eskom arguing for higher fixed capacity charges

ROTFLMAO!! I am not going to be paying the government or its henchman Eskom for electrical services I do not use irrespective of what they think they can force me to do. Time to start putting government in it's place something most people are to yellow to do it would seem. I am done with a corrupt government and those parties giving it legistimacy where none exists.

ALL municipalities are like this unfortunately. No "service" fee/charge can be waived due to non-delivery of that service.
 
Eskom is a failed business case, simple as that..

To resuscitate it, there must be a fundamental change in the way it generates revenue. I don't have the answers, but I'm sure there is a long-term strategy that someone has thought of.

While there might be a plan, I remain skeptical that Eskom will devise one. It's best to reduce our dependence on Eskom....

As an individual, yes, as a country, no.

A mix of de-centralised (rooftop PV, wind and IPP's) and centralised generation is always a good idea in my opinion. So it's in our best interest that Eskom can produce cheap power and sell it at a very attractive price, but alas, politics has once again stood in the way of a thriving economy.

Not going to happen, the only option is for individual, companies and municipalities to self-generate.

Not true with water and electricity. They might give you the runaround but if you get to the right department they'll eventually do it.
 
The irony is that the government use the taxes we pay, to bail out Eskom - to the tune of tens of billions of Rands. At the same time, Eskom is pushing up the price of electricity so, in effect, it's a double financial whammy for us. Realistically speaking, the people who can afford PV are the ones paying the greater proportion of the tax in the country. If anything, this will encourage these taxpayers to go off-grid completely which also means that Eskom loses the customers who actually do pay for their power.
