In a country with "freedom", it's pretty sad that you and your fellows had to be subjected to those threats of violence, and resort to such subversive measures just to obtain an education.
If you were describing practicing Christians in China, I would have understood, the secrecy required is exactly the same, and the consequences are unlimited jailtime for pursueing religion. Wow, just wow man. :(
We just weren't prepared to sacrifice more time because some muppets had beef with the university. Looking back we were probably young and stupid for taking that risk.

The heroes there were the lecturers who organised the clandestine lectures for us despite the personal risk.

Thankfully it was only for a little while in the final year. I can't imagine what the students there today are dealing with. Must be utter chaos year on year. Hats off to those able to get out the other end of South African universities on time, unscathed and with a degree.

Such a small man you are ..
Maybe show us what a big man you are by explaining what he's done for us.

And don't come here with maintenance takes time (there's less maintenance taking place than before he took over) and reducing Eskom debt (by increasing prices 20%+ pa) etc...

It's a bit of a sh!tshow. I was straight up told by my manager that it would be impossible for me to get promoted due to my skin colour, despite my performance. There was even a contractor who wrote in to our programme manager saying that my project was the 1st time in his 15yr history with Eskom where he was paid on time and in full every month.

Anyway, they were suprise-pikachu-faced when I resigned and moved to Norway.

I was also given an award for getting the entire dept. ISO9001 accredited when nobody else knew wtf was going on...it was even funnier when my mom went to collect the reward on my behalf and had to tell the group exec handing out the award that I quit and moved abroad.

It sucks because some of the retired white engineers there are some of the best in the world. Not because of their skin colour, but their experience. It's also not just an Eskom problem. Many private companies face a giant experience gap in the 30-50yr age group. So when the old guard retires, the fresh graduates have to take over with very little guidance left.
Just today a circular advertising some jobs from the company I currently do work for..
These positions will be filled in accordance with our current Employment Equity practices
We all know this means whites need not apply..

Then the manager at the client side whom I've known for years since we've worked on more than one project together phones me last week, 'please bear with me boet I just have to vent..' one of his BEE developers on our level just doesn't perform, his stuff keeps getting sent back so much so that said manager had to work last weekend to catch up on his work, but he can't do anything about it, so the rest of the developers have to take up the slack, wham bam 2 of his deliverables moved to my plate this week..

I can be fired in an instant & am performance checked regularly.. we are so equal lol.

The Scorpion And The Frog is a fable about a scorpion that stings and kills a frog that was trying to help it and dies in the process. The scorpion is often interpreted as representing the nature of humans to go against their best interests, and the frog our willingness to be too trusting.

For me the scorpion is the ANC government obsessed with race while the frog is us whites. While we have critical skills shortage we still forced not to hire whites, rather go sink.

You I agree. You cant just take back retired engineers. You may think I am nuts, but I am not.

Many of them are in their 60-70s easily enough. And some may even have early onset Dementia or Alzheimers.

Now have you ever met a mechanic that has dementia. I have. Worse if you have a dad that has it too.

My dad took his car to his friend who was and is a mechanic. The mechanic keeps forgetting this and that and replace parts with incorrect items because he cant remember what it should be. Car stuffed up. Take it to another mechanic on my dad's behalf and get it all fixed up. Then a year goes by, try arrange my dad to take it back to the working mechanic. Following day I found out he took it to the other, and car messed up again. This is a viscious circle.

Now think about Eskom. Any little mistake and we may have a meltdown or a blown up power plant.

Thus there is a reason why we have an old age cut-off. All engineers would need to be monitored continuously for early onset Dementia or Alzheimer. Because you may laugh thing it cant be that bad.

But it really can be. One minute they know who you are and then next they dont. My dad used to goto one mall every friday. He can drive home quick. But he took 2 hours to find the mall 10 minutes from his house, yet he shopped there often before. He simply got lost.

SA Titanic is going to be the name of a new movie. It's going to be how a huge ship with a promising career sank because it could not stay afloat anymore with all the overweight fat pigs aboard. The fat pigs aboard were stealing everything. Even the life rafts.

There were 4125 black, wealthy ANC connected members aboard. Cadres. There was one white ANC member aboard. Carl is a ****. Wikipedia taught me that.

They all died. Good riddance.
May SA Titanic happen soonest.

SA Titanic part 2:

Now ANC Rev2.0 hopes changing captains on Titanic will make it a fully functioning luxurious ship again.

Well fighting fire with fire is allowed, the gang of white academics went out of their way to try and dig dirt on him because they were triggered by the magic word, transformation. The allegations were never proven.

He was amongst those who defended De Ruyter when false allegations of racism were brought against him so he isn't on a crusade to get rid of white people, yes I feel that he handled the Wits matter very poorly but it is clear the white guys were out to get him.
Could be and I understand why he may hate whites and wants to "transform" organisations but Eskom hasn't done too well while he's been there. He maybe misses that it is key to SA's economic wellbeing, despite his doctoral brilliance, race prevailed. How he suffers de Ruyter is beyond me.

Reality is 27 other captains declined the position before AdR, so where will we find this magical captain that could weather the ANC's perfect storm of commie control & corruption & deliver us from loadshedding forever and ever amen?

Do you think changing the captain will ever get it ship-shape once again? I believe that's the point. FUBAR
