Eskom declares nationwide power emergency

South African power utility Eskom declared an emergency on Thursday saying the system remained severely constrained, a day after it temporary implemented rolling blackouts across the country to ease pressure on the grid.

Eskom said in a statement that any extra load or faults in the power system were likely to result in more rolling blackouts.

Thats a good thing imo...its enough chaos as is. Eskom itself being in the dark would not help the situation...

nah - while not ideal they are not to blame for this. The blame lies squarely with those that decided not to build power plants years back despite it being crystal clear that we'd need them. No points for guess who managed that stunning piece of planning.
