I'm not sure about the exodus but we have a few little contracts with Eskom, through an appropriate level partner (he does much better than us; fancy house and big Benz even though he isn't a South African, by birth anyway) of course. We don't see any pale faces, not that we have a real gripe, the almost all young engineers etc we deal with are pleasant, sharp and quite diligent but really inexperienced. Gives us a gap.

The environmental, health and safety, "community liaison" etc personnel are a bit tiring and cost the projects plenty in extras.

Interesting article, the primary reasons given have always been there yet the latter reasons are secondary when those are new and should be accounting for most of the drain. And they also seem to both resign without a job in prospect but at the same time going to Europe and the East? I'm sure there are issues at Eskom affecting staff but politicizing the reporting doesn't

Exodus of engineers at Eskom

Eskom engineers and technical staff are leaving the power utility because of affirmative action, a lack of career prospects, cadre deployment, nepotism, and a toxic work environment.

This is according to an article in Rapport, which highlighted problems in retaining skilled technical employees at Eskom.

This is hardly surprising to read skilled technicians are leaving. This was bound to happen when you mess with what was running smoothly then BEE and AA are introduced this is what is damaging this country. Locally trained artisans by white artisans don't have the sense of urgency, everything goes at a snail's pace with long tea and lunch breaks with only a few man-hours put in, thereafter the overtime kicks in.

Getting black people in is not what killed Eskom, what killed Eskom is corruption, perpetrated by people of all races.

So who should we get to train artisans if they become like that after being trained by white artisans?
