Funny how people want an IPP, however if prices are raised they complain. :rolleyes:

No IPP will set foot in SA at the current prices, even with the increase. ;)
 
There's certain to be a lot of back slapping and bonuses paid in Eskom circles because of this.

seeing as I'm not an ANC member I must have got special honorable membership. funny the ANC haven't bothered informing me about it :)
 
This is only the beginning. R60 Billion is a lot less than the R380 Billion needed for new power stations...
 
I heard that at a recent confrence in cape town about energy and power and what not that it was suggested to charge power similar to how water is charged.

ie. The more power you use after a certain amount the higher the cost of your electricity is.
 
I dont understand this. I live in Strand and for R100 I get about 145 units. Thats 69c a unit currently. So where is the extra 25c going currently per unit. And now with the hike ill prob get charged 31.3% on my 69c instead of the 25c. Wonder who I can contact for this so I can see a break down or something. Im on domestic low consumption (lowest rate you can get)

as far as I know they are planning a similar rate hike for next year.

So about 30% on top of what costs will be after this first rate hike.
 
Personally, I'm going to see about going off the grip - Get some decent solar panels all over the roof, batteries, etc. Might cost R100,000 - but in five years time when the average house hold electricity bill is R5,000/month - it won't be that bad.
 
Hear on the radio now that this % increase will not be for the poor, not big industry. That's fair enough I guess?

I just feel that I have been bent over and there is an industrial sized barrel of K-Y jelly is next to me.... :( Again

Hows that fair? What gives them a right to cheaper electricity? I worked my ass off to get where I am - and I didn't bitch to the government to make someone else pay for what I'm getting.

According to the above article, the percentage increase for the poor is limited to 15%, considering the poor are the masses in this country, anyone in a non poor area is probably going to have an increase of around 100% to cover the poor's 17% they're not paying.
