I think it is about having enough on low power consumption so that they meet eskom criteria to then keep the grid live

100%, if done correctly it can be targeted on high usage users which will save costs, a lot of people are already self limiting, the municipality should already know which areas are high consumers and target those instead of a blanket approach that is not informed by anything.

I still insists that most wastage is done unwittingly, I know I am not speaking for everyone but most people I know are already using has for cooking which is already helping a lot, it is the unmonitored and blatant wastage that is a problem, I have a family member of mine who would boil a kettle 5 times before finally summoning the courage to make that cup of tea, the type who seems to think an electric iron should be given time to heat heat up therefore he would be taking a sip of that tea while the iron is plugged in and steaming away.

That's how wasteful people are, remove the potential of being wasteful and let's see if it doesn't make a difference.
 
Illegal connection vote buying scheme. Not only will rate payers pay for stolen electricity, they will also be limited so that thieves can have free unlimited supply. SA socialism turned to 11/10.

If people are happy with that then there is no hope.

They had a ripple relay on my house once. It failed and they couldn't be bothered to come look at it. I ripped it out

They are not installing any sort of meters in my house unless a court order forces me to.

Instead of fixing the root cause, our friends over at stupid central want to make the problem go away by implementing this garbage.

How about no. I will sort out my own power needs anyway
