Eskom load shedding decision

"less disruptive to the economy" :)
on weekend i saw in our area... we happily let the streetlights burn in the sunlight, but the shopping centre is dark, due to load shedding.
shops closing doors inside, chasing customers away.
so really Eskom... start thinking about the economy. nobody gives a crap about streetlights in the day, but its quite a problem to have the shops closed. only the big shops have generators inside.
can even create jobs, get some guys to manually turn on/off the lights at dawn/dusk... if we are really to stupid to get auto switches

Switch off all the illegally connected townships, they probably pulling more energy than half of the east rand

This load shedding is really annoying!! Saturday we were hit twice in one day!! One in the morning, and the other in the evening :( I wonder if the countries Eskom supplies power to, are also experiencing the harsh load shedding? Eskom should consider people who generate their own power to sell into the grid somehow...

“It is the lesser of two evils,” Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger said.

...More like the lesser of the two victims :D

This. I hope Eskom does go around switching off people connected to power, illegally...not resort to price increases and not address these guys :)

Its BS. Business have funds to get generators, ect to cope with it. Most Citizens do not.

Big business have agreements where they can only be cut so much, looks like that point has being reached so the ones that is now an easy target is municipalities that can just shrug their shoulders and tell their residents too bad.

And the big business es pay less per unit than us.

Eskom, you useless!

Awe Load shed Zuma's house then the rest of the country will have enough electricity....

Yes, but the knock-on effect of every R spent on alternative power above the cost of Eskom electricity is much more than what the home user loses. In simple terms: A business invests money to create more money. If its electricity costs more, it loses not just the Rx it pays more, it also loses the opportunity to earn more. At home you only lose the use of your television or kettle. On top of that, you actually save money by not buying electricity. You only lose the utility value.

You save, and then Eskom goes crying to NERSA next year about not making enough money and needing a bigger increase... Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I am very thankful for a gas hob though. And the braai!

I'm just waiting for the next increase because Eskom will now be getting less money from the high-payers (residential) so that low payers (big business) can continue... I can see Eskom asking for another massive hike and asking for the current temporary increase to become permanent.
