As Eskom made no further comment on the future of chief executive Jacob Maroga on Friday, the chairwoman of Parliament's portfolio committee on public enterprises said he had personally told her he had not resigned.

The Black Management Forum said that state-owned enterprises were being turned into "slaughterhouses" for black professionals such as Maroga, who it believed had been pushed into resigning.

Slaughterhouses? Bwaaahahahahahahahaha. Bloody hell. Exactly how expensive is this meat that the slaughter house is selling?

She was fired by Maroga, and, the article continued, in his comments on the report, he wrote that there was a culture of white supervision at Eskom and that there was a view that blacks were not able to lead and achieve anything of significance.

Leadership fail, big time!

Here's Susan Olsen's confidential report that got her fired by Maroga. It exposes staggering incompetence within Eskom management. It was easier to sack her for doing the job she was employed to do than for Maroga to do the job for which he is employed.

To summarize, GPE lacks experience in and knowledge of the coal industry in general and South Africa in particular and the impact of coal quality on power station performance and reliability.

Unfortunately, GPE is unequipped for the challenges.

More troubling is that GPE has historically and consistently failed to enforce what little performance the contracts required.

That notwithstanding, growing electricity demand did not happen overnight Shortages, quality and quantity performance failures did not happen overnight But GPE, charged with keeping its fingers on the pulse of the stations and assuring that sufficient coal would be available, failed to respond accordingly.

It does not appear, however, that GPE performed any cost benefit analyses to quantify the long-term value of using design coal versus possible price increase from such renegotiations.

GPE's lack of experience in and failure to grasp the basics of commercial negotiations results in unnecessarily drawn out timeframes and unrealistic expectations.

GPE's lack of experience and understanding of world's best practice results in unfavorable and unsustainable contract provisions.

In my professional opinion, GPE as it is structured and managed cannot meet current needs much less future requirements. GPE lacks leadership, experience, knowledge and direction. It is haemorrhaging talented staff and is left with those who have delivered it to its current condition.

Maroga should be hanged not just fired! How was/is it allowed that such a strategic entity as Eskom be run this way?

IMO, what we have here is the most blatant case of political inteference in recent history.

Godsell and the rest of the board should walk for being undermined in such a manner.

The board was asked to make its choice it chose Godsell, Maroga resigned. The ANCYL, government, and the Black Management Forum opposed this, today Maroga was reinstated.

Godsell's resignation was confirmed by the Department of Public Enterprises, says a newswire service.
