I had Oscars that required heating.

It can be done but you'll need to scale it up. But you quickly get to a point where it makes sense to invest in a larger, permanent, solar installation (with aesthetics ;)). Think R10k-R15k for permanent vs R1.5 for a quick fix to get you over the worst. You probably have a battery charger already.
