This is when products that consume less electricity would be benificial.. such as LED lighting, If south africa can manufacture there own instead of importing, it would save a lot of implications.
I cant do it, no capital, no materials etc etc..actualy seen as a nobody in the bush that has access to internet, has two computers and also communicates with space people :p

But some companies can,
and please make your products afordable, the more afordable they are, the more people buy and the more flow of currency... But i do see Mossel Bay scoring from this.

Put people first not your corporations.

Cafe owner on the corner said: my running cost is up by 7k because of Eskom. He can't decrease prices because of it.
It is strange how under the NP South Africa had the some of the cheapest power in the world... nope not strange. A terrible government did the job better than the ANC who "cares".

It's naive and selfish to draw such comparison. I don't condone what eskom is doing but drawing cheap politics into the picture doesnt make any sense at all.

I don't think it's selfish or naive at all. The comparison is between a westernised political group, and a Marxist/Communist political group. It's very relevant.

It's like when you compare prices between PnP and Checkers, or even comparing the price of a Steer burger today to that of a Steer burger during apartheid, don't you agree?

can someone please explain how after public submissions eskom is still granted this increase?

is the publics participation so small that the voices are not heard or is it that eskom has lawyers using big fancy smancy words that allows it to win its case or is it buddy buddy system that says, lets just go through the motions to please everyone , but you will get it anyway.

has there been any successful attempts through public submissions that had a case overturned, i suspect there might be but few and far between.

Did you honestly think the public had any say in this?
This was already decided a long time ago and it was just windows dressing for the public.
They knew all along that they would get the increase.
The CEO of Eskom looked like a blithering idiot in the hearings and yet they still got it.

Typical political BS.
The ANC gvt should have covered the cost, it was their f cuk up but we will never learn and the public will continue to vote for them.
This is only really going to affect the middle class (if there is one left).
The rich dont care, the poor get services for free or they steel it.

I don't quite get it. Last year, we had load shedding which was (partly) as a result of demand exceeding rated capacity. We minimised usage and spent on alternative energy sources to aleviate the crisis and now this? This in the face of a loomng economic crisis, which went on to reduce economic activity, ultimately killing profit margins on eskom's side... Surely they saw this coming.

/walks away

Some economists are Ok with the tariff increase and say it is necessary for the Infrastructure upgrades Eskom needs.

Just glad I am not in a manufacturing business as your electricity bill is going to go through the roof.
Fast foods, take aways, basically anyone that uses a lot of electricity to produce their products are going to feel it big time and I suspect they will simply have to increase the prices to catch up.
It is a vicious circle, we are not going to win this one.

ha ha ha yip three arms/hands are better i guess.

1) to keep your eyes shut
2) to keep your mouth shut
3) to go through your pockets for your last few cents.

Are they raping us though? We still pay far less for electricity than do most countries. What I will agree with is the rate at which these price hikes have come in at is scandalous and sacrilegious. Who the hell from private households to small business to big business can budget for such significant increase?!!!

but why compare us to most countries then. there are proberly other countries with less crime and there are proberly other countries with free medical for all and there are proberly other countries with free internet and other countries with a decent public transport system and the list goes on.

so now because we are paying lower than other countries we must now hike our prices so we are on a par with them, for what?
