Good day,

I need help please. The transformer in my area/block has decided not to work anymore. Burned out. Not exploded, eskom disconnected the transformer. I'm sure it was an aging issue with this transformer. Eskom said they must first do an Audit on our block and that is what they did. We even took days off from work to assist eskom in this process. Out of 42 houses they found about 28 houses that are buying electricity illegally from back door vendors. These houses received fines and must sign off on these fines to admit guilt and must pay. But some refuse to sign these documents and eskom is saying they will not change the transformer untill everybody has signed the forms. But the purchase of illegal electricity is an eskom system problem. These Back door vendors has find a way to bypass eskom's system for people to buy electricity for cheap from them. Why not replacing the transformer then cut off the people that is at fault. It's been 2 weeks now without any electricity. Adults can still survive but the children are suffering allot because of this. Please remember that it is not about illegal connections. Its about the purchasing of illegal electricity from these back door vendors, an eskom system problem.

Anybody here that could supply me with an senior eskom staff member's email address to escalate this. Or can I ask Mybroadband to assist me to contact Eskom. Any help will be much appreciated.

As you know Eskom is making big losses due to illegal connections. a Transformer are design to supply power to x amount of houses. So if you connect more load than what it could handle, it would pop, as was the case with your supply. I saw somewhere that Eskom is doing this now, to force people to pay. It cost a lot of money to replace. Sorry to hear about your inconvenience.

Im not a fan of group punishment and Im sorry that you suffering dude but more the 60 % of your neighbours are buying illegal tokens (A majority let that sink in), there is no difference between having an illegal connection, bypassing meters and these fake tokens. the fake tokens affect the meter at the house they do not register on eskom system, no,clearly if they try and disconnect them they will have a riot (The majority), there are more of them not doing things legally and that stinks (dont tell me they never Knew), but your attitude trying to justify your neighbours actions stinks as well.

Eskom will not budge so its time to tell all your neighbours to come clean and pay up and do things legally maybe get violent on theses back door vendors since they made 100% profit.

There is unfortunately no easy way out, buy an inverter or generator to make your life a little more bearable and hope you neighbours come to their senses soon, that's just how the new dawn rolls, Eskom is now allowed not to tolerate any nonsense on their network.

Check this post from 5 years ago. The decline was allowed and it dragged the entire country down.

This is how it gets fixed or doesn't get fixed.

He'd have to get a solar setup or a generator, as he can't charge the inverter any other way

This is wrong on so many levels. Eskon needs to initiate legal/criminal action against the thieves and not punish an entire neighborhood with paying customers.

Just having them sign a fine and admission of guilt is not enough. Especially for an illegal vendor that resells stolen electricity.

Get your neighbors together and go and beat the snot out of the thieves until they do what is needed to be done.
That's were this is heading, down the path of mob justice.

Yup. It's exactly what Eskom wants. Why else punish innocent people if not to turn them against the guilty

Can't say I disagree with Eskom's actions here. If they replace that transformer; it's just going to blow again due to the illegal connections (Yes, I said connections because it's the same thing) - so this is their way to force compliance.

And your whole attitude to the whole thing stinks too.
Get the majority to pay and stop being scum-bags
I hope Eskom wins this fight.

Just get the majority to pay ...... such bloody loud mouth macho's. As if

Did you read the OP? It is not illegal connections, it is ghost vending that is the issue.
