Eskom reveals price increase plans

Luckily I left a few years ago...wonder if there's any solar cell + battery getups in SA...something like that should help take off a few bucks or two

I'm more concerned about the way municipalities are adding their own cozy profit margins on top of the Eskom tariffs.
Eskom provides power at 60c/kWh but the municipalities hike it to nearly double that amount depending on the IBT block you fall into.

So if you're currently paying R1.20 per kWh and the municipalities also increase the the tariffs by 16% per annum for 5 years you'll be paying:
2013 : R1.39 per kWh
2014 : R1.62 per kWh
2015 : R1.87 per kWh
2016 : R2.17 per kWh
2017 : R2.52 per kWh

Total effective increase = 110%

Every time I see Eskom mentioned, it is always Want, Want Want. They Sound like a bunch of toddlers wanting all the time.

That was a few years ago already.

I've always wondered, what brought you to SA in the first place?

I know, I know. A few factors have been intensifying my thinking though but it's rather a logistical issue to move. I came because my wife is SA and she wasn't well in the UK. But the US is still wide open to me, I have dual nationalities.

Nersa needs to tell this lot to ****..

If the municipality passes this 16% increase directly onto me it will mean the price will be R2.16 per Kwh... which is beyond bloody mad.

ai.. why don't goverment just take our salaries and give us bread and milk every day? They are robbing us fcking blind, Eskdom has been increasing prices for the last 4 year (if not longer)... and they STILL want more.

Make the fckers pay who steal /have illegal connections.

O wait... with e-tolls and price increases , nobody will have money to buy anything. So much for growing the economy. Then goverment will blame apartheid/white devil etc again... people will strike for 20% increase etc... rinse and repeat

Looks like it's time to get my solar geyser.

That coupled with my energy efficient PC, LED lights and new generation fridge should bring my usage way under 300 kw per month.

Honestly there are loads of ways to reduce your energy consumption you just need to look into them.

Fixed that for you.

Why don't they ask Red Bull to sponsor them?
