Eskom seeks 20% tariff increase

Funny how they fabricated the load shedding to get the emergency tenders in to enrich themselves and the parties involved.
So by fabricating the emergencies they could get away with the ridiculous increases year after year.
Then our king came along and just out of the blue announces that we will never have load shedding ever again as if the problem was just POOF gone.

No they reckon we need to pay more because they are selling less?
So with their increase of 20% plus your municipality charging you more you will look at closer to 30 - 40% increase.

It is officially time to get off the grid if they get away with this increase.

Meanwhile South Africa supplies the majority of low cost power to Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe under the Southern African Power Poll Scheme (SAPP). Many of these countries have massive debts with Eskom, yet SA keeps their lights on. If you are a South African electricity user and don't pay your bill, or don't feed the hungry prepaid meter you get cut off.

Isn't it nice to know that when you pay 20% more for electricity in the near future, you actually subsidising the electrification of the entire sub-continent?

Isn't it comforting to know that Eskom refuses to reveal the bulk price it exports this electricity to other countries, despite being funded by you the tax payer and electricity consumer?

Zim might have tried to pay it with monopoly money lol

*** dude , you were supposed to do this 5 years ago already!

I have been using compact fluorescent lamps, however, had to replace one and saw you get the LED bulbs now. Tried it and was impressed with the better illumination output of it vs the CFL ones.

Want to start getting later to replace the CFLs.

What a ****ing joke.

Can we not get together and convince NERSA that we should get a reduction in tariff?

This is why people are sending do-it-yourself instructions via whatapp and email on how to hack your prepaid meters. Raising prices will just mean more people will make illegal connections and more lower LSM communities will refuse to pay.

Meanwhile ZANC and Eskom are supplying the whole of the Southern continent with cheap, below cost electricity which many haven’t even paid for years. The new power stations are not being built for domestic power supply. They are being built to export power to non-paying neighbouring countries. Hard working, honest South Africans are once again carrying the can, yet are the most disenfranchised politically.

Just sickening!

It's shocking how this is allowed to continue. We supply 3/4 of the entire nation of Botswana with electricity and I think most of Zimbabwe as well. Neither of them pay for it. Meantime back at the ranch consumers here are just supposed to swallow incessant increases.

Or at least make them stop supplying consumers/nations who don't pay. Then we don't need loadshedding, don't need all those very expensive power stations, we can take the old coal ones back offline and we don't have to carry billions in debt so no increases and we can start to use electricity again. Win-win right?

I wonder if we can take nersa to court and force them to not allow an increase until those issues have been addressed

Of the members of SAPP, Eskom have the lowest debtor days. So, it does look like they do collect.

must find the stat, if memory serves, they have increased generation capacity marginally, but employment number has skyrocketed. (well over 100% increase) .

How about no? You've milked us enough.

Eskom must cut their cost, increasing the prices is just going to make the situation worse.

It's not about being milked or cutting costs. It's about inefficiency. It's about gifting the Guptas gravy train - and we may as well include Molefe who is now in the Labour Court looking to be reinstated so that he can receive his golden handshake.

I am seriously considering going to NERSA to protest the wasteful, deceitful expenditure.
