Eskom starts load shedding

Well at least it seems that the clock in Eskom's head office is running on batteries and not electricity as it seems to be working.

Power went off at exactly 10:00 and came back on at exactly 12:30.

Been off in roodepoort since 10:30 and still not on!!!

@MKFrost - that 18h00 ~ 20h30 window is utter BS.

HTF are people with electric stoves gonna cook? What about children?

That's times as per the schedule, do you think Eskom cares at all how you cook? Guess they trying to force you to invest in a gas stove.

POWER TO BE RESTORED IN JHB SUBURBS

Power will be restored in various suburbs of Johannesburg by 12.30pm on Thursday, City power said.

Electricity had been cut off since 8.30am as part of load shedding due to an emergency request from Eskom, said spokesman Hloni Motloung.

The affected areas were Hillbrow, Berea, Houghton, Hillside, Parktown, Doornfontein, Yeoville, Rosebank, Killarney, Saxonwold, Hyde Park, Dunkeld, Parkwood, Melrose Arch, Melrose, Birdhaven, Chislehurston, Riviera, Norwood, Bramley, Illovo, Athol, Inanda, Alexandra, Wynberg, Kew, Bramley Gardens, Fairmount, Silvamonte, Lyndhurst, Glenhazel, Crystal Gardens, Rembrandt Park, Sunningdale, and Lombardy.

Motloung said a full schedule of power cuts was available on City Power's website.

Customers were urged to switch off appliances and equipment during outages to avoid damage when the power was restored.

"City Power apologises for the inconvenience and will keep the customers updated on the situation through its website."

Eskom earlier announced power cuts were scheduled to last from 9am to 10pm across the country due to seven days of heavy rain leaving coal stocks wet.

Consumers were urged to switch off all non-essential appliances to reduce the impact of the power cuts.

I'm caught in that time window, so will see what happens tonight.
Fortunately, I have a portable gas stove that I use for camping, and the weather aint so bad, so could even braai.

I wonder how they developed the schedule. Randomly assigned or did they do some analysis, taking things like demographics and population density into consideration?

How the hell are domestic users supposed to cut usage if we aren't even at home?!

Most useless bunch of retards in the world running the show in this country. It's very clear that Eskom are trying to blackmail for more funds and increases from government. What did they achieve since 2008 apart from burning cash?

We already had power out this morning but according the the schedules available our load shedding will be this afternoon between 15h00 and 18h00.

filth and lies, every suburb has the message:

"We regret that we could not find a schedule for Province: Gauteng Main Place: City of Johannesburg Suburb: Illovo. Select the tabbed Alphabets for more suburbs.
If you are an Eskom customer, please contact the Eskom Contact Centre on 08600ESKOM (0860037566) for assistance.
If you are a Municipality / Metro customer please check their web site (see the Municipal Schedules links) or contact them for assistance"

Just take note, those times are applicable to Stage 3 conditions only.

Does this mean that the areas not mentioned will not be load shedding?

I'm happy, it just doesn't seem very fair does it?

Well I wonder if Pta Central will get load shedding during the OP court case. That'll show the world how useless our guvment is.

FFSK!!! How am I supposed to turn off power when I'm already at work? The last power cut took out a winding on my pool motor... I guess I'm going home to a "dead" pool motor :) Thankfully I have household cover.
