You wouldn't believe how many people simply do not comprehend that Stage one load shedding allows for up to 1000MW of the national load to be cut, stage two for up to 2000MW, and stage three for up to 4000MW.

Found this on the Eskom website:

Stage 1 allows for up to 1000 MW of the national load to be shed.
Stage 2 allows for up to 2000 MW of the national load to be shed.
Stage 3 allows for up to 4000 MW of the national load to be shed.

It's simple: Who bills you for electricity? If it's the council believe the council's site.

I buy directly from Eskom, hence I follow the national schedules to see when I'd get shed.

The regular load shedding suggestion for a period of time (at least till Koeberg comes back online) makes sense really.
People and business can plan for stuff.

Our plant went down today with no notice whatsoever from the municipality.
They are normally good and advise us before hand but the notice period given is often never enough for us to complete or abort a lengthily chemical process already on the go.

Just can't run a business like this.

In short the methodology I believe is, (and not disputing the amounts needed to be shed)
S1 involves residential and commercial areas mainly
S2 include industrial areas
S3 amplifies the occurrence of it all.

Having absolute known times can save significant amounts of money to industry, if they can just frikkin stick to it.
Unlike Eskom, the private sector, that sink or swim on the decisions they make are generally much better planners than government guaranteed job officials who don't have a clue or any sense of accountability for what they do or don't do.

Yes, because the server on which City Power's website runs is amaze-balls and, therefore, always online. Okay, I lied. Okay no wait, I didn't. On, off. On, off. There's a pattern here somewhere...

Yup - Cape Town still on Stage 2.

Just another reason CPT rocks.

We have 2.5 hours load shedding - those in Jo'burg get 4.5 hours at a time.

Here in Durban i only get two hours and its only ever been once a week. So can we safety presume Dbn>Ct>Jhb :D?
