Unit 2 at Eskom's Koeberg nuclear power station near Cape Town suffered another setback this past weekend, wiping a potential 920MW generating capacity off the grid.

The power utility says the unit tripped from full power during routine testing of a control rod on Saturday morning.

That's not going to happen. Incompetence is astounding.

Obviously the proper operating procedure was not followed. This test has been done on every outage since outage 101 & 201 with very rarely a problem. Also many years ago the logic's etc for the RAM system had been fully upgraded. So is this a recurrence of the "operations error" experienced at Medupi when they got the oxygen & hydrogen flows mixed up when purging the alternator?
