Yes. From 100m onwards you will start to experience packet loss etc. Just use external ftp cable that is UV resistant. If the cable will be hanging between points, make sure you use cable tensioners.
Thanks where can i get ftp cable thats uv protected.
Is it possible to run an ethernet cable 60 to 80 m across a building. To allow for content sharing
Just be aware of lightning
Why? Last time I checked rubber/pvc/plastic did not attract lightning. The tensioners if used, also grounds the cable in any case.
Lightning strike will create ground potential difference between two buildings. All pairs can receive thousands of Volts against computer ground. Why? Last time I checked rubber/pvc/plastic did not attract lightning. The tensioners if used, also grounds the cable in any case.
Why not just use low powered point to point WiFi network equipment? Thinking of Ubiquiti, good stuff at nice prices, with speeds even higher than 100Mbps possible.
Look at Scoop Distribution or Miro to source, or your local IT shack.

Yes, conduit is a good idea.
It is written down, just read again.Sorry, what....?
Now let ME see....Let me see: cost approx. R30 000. Why not indeed....
Now let ME see....
Ubiquiti A/M NanoStation Loco M5 (running on a 40mHz channel gives you 300mBit aggregate link, so you should get a 100Mbps true speed over 80-100m) costs R 820 (ex VAT) and you need 1 at each side. I have one running over 300m at 30mHz giving 80-90mBps (depending on the file tipe and HDD speed, as well as general LAN congestion both sides).
So for under R2000 you should be able to build a wifi link thats not prone to lightning, static or landlord rules about cables and stuff all over the show or taken down down by a delivery truck or a falling tree.
Unless you were referring to AirFiber units running guaranteed 1Gbps at R14000 a side..... then indeed that is the case.
In any business environment...
