Does anyone have any experience of flying with this airline and if so, how do they compare with Emriates?

Thanks very much.

Some wings may be more expensive than others and you, my friend, end up paying for them!

Feel free to click on the link.

I have an irrational fear of clicking on links...

I don't get what you saying about the wings - If you are asking which airline is cheaper, I think its Etihad...

But as you only travel first class, I think Emirates is better then......

EDIT:PS maybe you would get a better response if you posted this in the forum above, the one that says transportation?

cant compare it to emirates as i have never flown with them.

I have to say though, economy on most airlines is pretty much the same - the only differentiator i find ends up being price.

Etihad in my opinion (economy) is no different from SAA or BA.

Well, not quite, e.g. on Emirates each passenger - even in economcy class - has their own screen for watching movies, playing games, etc, which SAA does not have as far as I remember? Speaking under correction, though.

see you even choked trying to spell economy...its just not for some people!

Well i must add, the in-flight entertainment makes a massive difference (if you're flying economy). This seems to be tied to actual plane [new/old] you fly in. I flew Emirates recently Jhb -> Dubai -> Munich.

They use a new plane on the Jhb->Dubai stretch , and you can pick and choose all the latest movies, series and watch on your own screen and reverse/restart any of the stuff.
You get like a USB port, charger port and all that right there in the seat.

However from Dubai -> Munich it was older plane, movies are 'scheduled' , so can't pick and have to tune into a channel at specific times.

Might seem small, but 13+ hours on a cramped seat and it gets very annoying.

Economy class remains crap no matter what airline. BUT, next time i might consider Business Class [on Emirates/Etihad] as Emirates Economy is almost half the price of SAL/Others . Etihad [when i looked at quotes] wasn't much cheaper than Emirates [maybe R200 or so] .

Also check where the plane stops over in the UAE. I hated the Dubai stopover...the airport sucks bollocks. There's too many people, not enough seats [people sleeping on the floor] , k%k shops on the airport...and at that time you generally are feeling like crap and just wants a nice soft chair to sit in. I'm sure it's nice if you stop over for a day and actually leave the airport, but if you're doing the 3-6 hour thing *cry*. Etihad might stop over at a city less crazy than Dubai.

I might consider Etihad simply because there might be a chance their planes aren't jam-packed like sardines like Emirates [i.e. you might actually get a good seat, open seat next to you etc etc] .

SAA, BA and Etihad all had the same system on all the flights i been on. Multiple movies, tv shows, CD's, games etc all on your own screen. You choose what you want when you want.

No difference, other then price

I would say it is the deciding factor for most passengers.

Would have to agree. If i was in business class or better, then service starts to become a factor, as the price of those tickets warrant a certain level of extra's.

In economy, its pretty much bottom of the barrel anyways, rather go with the cheapest you can get your hands on.

I've flown economy long haul on Emirates, SAA and Etihad several times in the last 12 months. Etihad in my opinion is the best. Their planes are the cleanest (if not newest) and the food was great. All planes where new Airbus's with fancy three hundred thousand channels to choose from type screen's in front of all passengers. Emirates has the same system. SAA has a similar system with less option though.

I choose SAA or Emirates ONLY because of the Voyager miles I earn on both. Otherwise I fly Etihad as much as possible.

I really don't get the logic I hear quite often that budget airlines are unsafe or less safe safe than traditional airlines. Has anyone seen stats or something like that to back up the thinking? I know that kulula/BA in South Africa are maintained by the SAA ground staff. So they should be technically equal.

I'm fairly certain that no pilot wants to crash when he takes off. Surely they wouldn't fly if it was unsafe for them? They have families too.

Save reputable flying company > No name brand

And lets see, you would consider SAL [no pilots,no mechanics,no money] a "safe reputable flying company" versus

"no name brand" Etihad an Arabian airline , (most probably where alot of SAL pilots/mechanics/skills go to) , with oil-money coming out of their ears , probably brand new planes too ?

The pilot of the last Emirates flight i was on, guess what...he was South African.....

It's easy:

Flying hours vs Flying hours

One company can fly 50 000 hours without incident, others have now been flying 1 000 hours incident free. Which would you choose ?

Thanks a lot for the info, Waaib. I have flown Emirates many times, but I intend using Etihad for my next trip.
