Just reading the news and have a comment:

I could care less what the cause was. The fact remains that white farmers in SA are being wiped out due to the colour of their skin and language they speak.
This is without doubt genocide and the gvt has been and continues to look the other way, this to me indicates the involvement.
This bull about a rainbow nation is in the trash, its a fantasy and will never be realised.
Can you imagine if these were white people attacking blacks? I am sure the ANC would be calling this what it is....racially motivated attacks.
I am so sick of the political correctness that everyone has to show to the ANC.

Basically it refers to ends of the political spectrum, and if I remember my history class it refers to seating arrangements of politicians in the old French parliment, just after the revolution.
On the right you get your more conservative organisations, the guys who want to maintain the status quo, or keep things as they are. Generally speaking in terms of western politics you're talking about your capitalist parties, in favour of lower taxes, traditional family values, small government with low day to day regulation, strong military with an interventionist foreign policy. On the very faaaar end of that scale you get your nutjobs like the AWB, KKK, Westboro Baptist Church, and so on.
Conversely, on the left you get your liberal and / or socialist type political parites, the guys more in favour of big government with a high degree of regulation, high taxes to drive social / welfare programs, redistribution of wealth within a society, isolationist foreign policy, and are generally more open to alternate lifestyles. However, the nutjobs on the faaar left of the spectrum are just as messed up as those on the right, people like various communist parties, Maoists, Pol Pot, Stalin, and so on.
 
Then consider population in those first 3 countries vs the population in SA

you can see that SA is pretty daingaraaas
