Hey guys :)

So I've turned to you as UNISA administration have made things only more confusing! After about 4 phone calls I am still unsure. Here is basically the low down:

I matriculated in 2008 and did both CAT and IT, receiving 85+% for both. I registered last year s2 for UNISA. This year s1 I registered for EUP1501. I have done the first assignment, but have now found out I can be exempted from doing the module, and wish to do so because its so boring and have to go in for prac exams. However apparently you have to take another similar module, one of which I believe is INF1520 which I am doing.

So basically I want to know should I continue this module and get the credit or ask for an exemption (which apparently I have to go to a UNISA building give them all the details etc and wait months).

Confused!

Eish supposed to be in Off topic, can a mod please move

Hi Squirrel, if you might get exempted for EUP1501 without credit unless you can prove to the Dean that your matric CAT&IT covered the exact same syllabus. Students who are exempt without credit for EUP1501 must register for INF1520.

So finish your EUP, its a ballache but just do it else your going to waste another semester. Also do not underestimate how difficult EUP is, most guys are over confident with the tests and do not study. Also do your tests ASAP before your deadline.

I did my last test 6 days before the cut off and was stressing. Just keep in mind that if you fail a test you have to wait 7 calendar days before you can rewrite it. I did most of my tests at iTembi labs and the rest at Unisa Parrow.

All the best and at least you get ICDL certified bragging rights :) when your done

Thank you for your help! But to make things a little trickier. I am already doing INF1520 this semester. Secondly, I am writing in Grassy Park and would have to go to Parow to write the EUP examinations. I dont have my own car and live far away so its a mission ;/

Your in a catch 22 situation here now as you first need the Dean to confirm your exemption before you can cancel the EUP - if you cancel before the time then you could be prevented from continuing your studies until you pass EUP. Sundae Ballache Delux !!!

But here is a list of public testing centers you can also use for your ICDL tests http://www.icdl.org.za/centres-open-public.php

Just check if the testing center can test you on the Office version your learning. The cost at these places is generally all the same. Some of them will even allow you to write two tests in the same session - big time saver.

Don't get the certificate anymore. AFAIk, its UNISA's own basic program now and not ICDL anymore.

I did EUP1501 last year and lots of stuff missing from the ICDL certificate program. EUP was a huge waste of time and I never even bothered to open the book. At the end I passed all the tests, but you don't get a certificate anymore when completing the course.

The exam only covered MS Word and MS Excel unlike the ICDL where you learna bout Access as well.

Still unsure of what to do! Haven't booked my tests either ><
