Downing's inclusion boggles the mind.
Then, again. It is Roy Hodgson. I'm just suprised he didn't call up Paul Konchesky.

England need height up front. Rooney is good in the air but short, Defoe is a midget and Welbeck is yet to develop an aerial game. Besides Carrol was actually playing well towards the end of the season.
Jury is still out on what his true position is.
Would make for a cracking final. Holland should at least make the final.

Richards is very unlucky and i would nave picked Kompany over Terry on any day

The squad selection shows that Roy will be going with his "tried-and-tested" 4-4-2 formation and see "how far" they get. Johnson the only recognised right back, does this mean Jones is his backup?
4 wide players or wingers in Downing, Walcott, Young, Milner...possibly also the Ox. This leaves either Barry or Parker in holding midfield; and Gerrard or Lampard as attacking mid. With Rooney initially suspended, it seems he will go with Defoe/Carroll starting upfront. Can't really see how this England team will perform much better than the one that was SWC'10.

I thought he was just referring to Kmpany being a good defender in general. That's why I simply left it.

but its the ex liverpool manager so give liverpool players the chance and CPT to gerrard ..yeah brillaint

still trying to forget that nightmare. cant believe terry is in there based on current form. even carroll made him look like an idiot in that final...and then his performance in the following league game...good for carroll to get a go but crouch's contribution at that level has been good...

don't like keepers as captains. captains movement shouldn't be restricted....im not endorsing Gerrard either. he has not had a good season by any stretch of the imagination. i like parker as captain
