Euro 2012 Thread

He can go sit in Barbados all he likes once he turns 40. Playing for your country at one of the biggest competitions in the world should be an honour. Who said anything about him sitting bench? He might very well play. Gerrard has a habit of getting injured, Scott Parker isn't 100%, Lampard just got ruled out, if you ask me he has a good chance of actually playing.

I'm glad Henderson got to go, good experience for him. Let people who actually want to play for their country be given a chance.

When he made himself ineligible, it was because he wouldn't have been chosen in the 23 man squad, he would have been on standby. He didn't know Barry and Lampard were going to get injured.

the problem is everyone would play for they country but how good they are is the other problem

yep this right here ...he was going to be like 4th choice so why bother when you had a good season

Personally I'm happy his not going, it's been a tough season and the need the rest to get back for the 20th!!!

The likes of Nani, Hernandez, Young, Jones, Smalling needs more game time tho

I feel the same way about Lampard. Mofo doesn't know when to quit. He needs the rest more than Carrick.

Woy really loves his former players ;)

England defender Gary Cahill has been ruled out of Euro 2012 with a double fracture of his jaw.
The Chelsea centre-half suffered the injury when he collided with goalkeeper Joe Hart during the friendly win over Belgium on Saturday.
Liverpool's Martin Kelly has been called up as his replacement, subject to Uefa's approval.
Fellow defender John Terry's hamstring injury has been scanned and he will be re-assessed on Tuesday.
England manager Roy Hodgson had already lost goalkeeper John Ruddy (fractured finger) as well as midfielders Gareth Barry (abdomen) and Frank Lampard (thigh) from his original 23-man squad.
Liverpool full-back Kelly made his international debut as a substitute against Norway last weekend.

bwahahaahahaha go Liverland! I mean Engpool... I mean whichever

Fun fact: Both Micah Richards and Micheal Carrick would've been in the squad if they hadn't refused to be on standby.

Good for Kelly, good defender and it's good he got chosen. At least he wants to play for his country.

Now we just need Terry to get injured, so Carragher can come out of international retirement :D

Fun fact: Hodgson will do sh|t in the tournament if he keeps selecting players who had mediocre seasons.

In any case, I'm glad Carrick isn't going.

FACT

It wouldn't matter who manages England. They still don't have the skill and talent to win a major trophy anytime soon...

Who would have picked then?

Kelly had a decent season when he played.

If you rule yourself out of selection he can't exactly call you up.

Fun Fact: England won't do well regardless of who they choose, it's ENGLAND! They could have Messi, Vidic, Kompany, Silva, Ronaldo, Xavi, Busquets, etc etc and still manage to mess it up.

Its common knowledge that the foreign players make the EPL popular.

The English just don't have the attributes to perform for their country....

Anyone who you think had a mediocre season, and their replacement. I'll start you off: Downing - Adam Johnson

Henderson - Carrick
Johnson/Jones - Richards
Carroll - anyone/Holt/Graham (and if he made the squad, wouldn't be my first choice striker)
Kelly - Ferdinand
Gerrard/Milner/Parker - Sinclair/Britton/Osman

If Hodgson had reached out personally to both Richards and Carrick and assured them an important role in the squad - which they both deserve - then I'm sure they would have accepted.

AVB made the same mistake at Chelsea. Oh well.

Yeah, I don't agree with not picking Gerrard. He might not be the force he once was, but he is certainly among the top talents in the country still. Milner is part and parcel of an EPL winning side and should be in the squad. However, how Downing made it past Sinclair and Johnson is totally beyond me though Johnson didn't get as much game time as he did.
