The only convincing thing of this game is that the Austrians lack any type of finesse and skill to get through defenders.

Over the years it has been a combination of media hype, poor choice of managers and then cliques among the players who placed club before country.

The 90s to 00s you had United (Beckham, Scholes, the Nevilles, Butt, Rooney, Ferdinand, etc); Arsenal (Adams, Keown, Seaman, Ashley Cole, Campbell, etc); Liverpool (McManaman, McAteer, James, Fowler, Owen, Gerrard, Carragher, Heskey, Crouch, etc) and Chelsea (Terry, Joe Cole, Lampard) forming the backbone of the England teams and they were cliquey, showing loyalty to their clubs and their club mates. In some cases, there was legit tension among the players, particularly the United and Arsenal players who would have been around during the 98 - 04 title fights between the two clubs. Liverpool also had the period of the 'Spice Boys' where they sent a lot of players to the national team who were noted for poor behaviour, giving England teams a reputation for being ''lads on tour''. There for the drinking and partying and not the football.

Makes sense but over the last decade there has been tension and cliques yet no impressive results either. They lost to Iceland just a few months ago..

All England's talent is imported by the Premier league.

Very festive in London for the build up today... Beautiful day for it too
