All this for an AMD X2 3800+ with el'cheapo 400Mhz ram, 8600GT and 1x Raptor HDD

These scores do not seem very useful If it was correct it would mean that my pc aint much slower than a Q6600 setup.

Anyways I cant wait to get my new 3870 next week. It may not be the greatest but it should extend the life of my ancient pc by a few months.

Before I installed the drivers for my 8600gt I got a score of 3.9 for my CPU (P4 3.2), and a base score of 1, when I installed the drivers my CPU score went up to 4.0 and my base score to 4.0, today I got a new motherboard, my CPU score went up from 4.0 to 4.1

I dunno - will have to see in the future. But it can go up as high as that. Mine's sitting at 9.9 after hacking it. - Did it because of a dumb theory that ran around some time ago that Vista gives you a little more if you have a better score - this is ofcourse not true as i've tried it!.

The base scores currently range from 1 to 5.9. The Windows Experience Index is designed to accommodate advances in computer technology. As hardware speed and performance improves, higher base scores will be introduced. However, the standards for each level of the index stay the same. For example, a computer scored as a 2.8 will remain a 2.8 unless you decide to upgrade the computer's hardware.
