“There is a need for a ZADRR as domain name cyber squatting and hijacking is prevalent in SA,” says Neil Dundas, a director of Bowman Gilfillan.

“In our experience there are very few South African companies that have not been affected in some way or another by domain name hijacking, cyber squatting or possibly domain name mal-administration."

We should ask for MyWireless.co.za :D

LOL @ MyWireless. Seriously - www.shopping.co.za, www.search.co.za, www.browse.co.za, www.loans.co.za, www.franchise.co.za, www.tyres.co.za ................... all the way to www.wines.co.za are all registered to one idiot who does nothing with these except point to each other.

I mean - what a waste of perfectly good domain names. This person must be removed.

I think I know what he's trying to do. Pointing these domains to each other means he'll get a pretty good google ranking on certain keyword searches. I think he's hoping to generate a bit of income using google ads.

not sure what the rules are but those are all generic URLs in which no one will have a trademark and, subject to what the rules will be, i think they will have a hell of a time trying to get him off. The person claiming must have some kind of right or interest in the domain name otherwise it will generally be first come first served

Agree'd - no actual trademark claim could be made, except to claim that these generics do belong to South Africa, and not a UK person. I could then contest saying that I wanted to list local "Shops" on shopping.co.za, but, at the moment, thre is nobody to contest to (Methinks).

what is also happening a lot is online affiliate marketing...find a product or service which does not have a web site and put up a site, using the product/service as the domain name, which transfers to, for example, a no-obligations free quote

also register typos of well known sites...affiliate then gets paid for each referred person who takes up the offer

i think this is probably legal but as far as netiquette or fair use of the Internet goes i think it sucks
