From what I understand, based on this article, this seems to have nothing to do with evolution. According to the article, these proteins merely correct mutations that may arise in a cell. Since evolution doesn't happen on the organism level and genes are certainly not passed on from mutated cells, I can't see how this is claimed to be a control mechanism for evolution.
Controlling mutation within an organism is good thing (if your cells continuously mutated, they would soon cease to do what they are supposed to) and it would make sense for organisms to evolve ways of repairing damaged DNA in cells.
