Btw, I don't think many people realise the extent to which dearSouthAfrica has become a thorn in the side of the SA government.
Personally, I'm not one for petitions. I tend to roll my eyes at them because they are a dime a dozen and they just seem so ineffectual.
Then I found out that the approach taken by dearsouthafrica, is quite different.
They don't do petitions.
They take your comment and format it as a letter. They then print the letter, physically. And deliver all the letters physically, in boxes, to the government dept. (At least they did this in one instance that I know of.)
A letter is different from a signature on a petition. The government is required to consider each letter. It cannot treat it the same as a petition. Besides there is the factor of all those boxes that are a very visible form of evidence of opposition.
If someone knows more - or better - please chime in.
p.s. I suspect - although don't know for sure - that the reason for the internal disruption within dearsa recently, may just have something to do with their legal LD challenge, which the government moved to delay.... soon after the international organization 'Panda'(Pandemics Data Analysis) registered as a 'friend of the court', which is apparently an advisory role, in the same case.
Bottom line: if a picture paints a thousand words, a comment paints a separate picture the government must look at/consider individually. Even if it does nothing other than help to delay the inevitable, I think that time is precious, in terms of potential contingency.
On the other hand, EWC may just result in the wake-up call independence movements are looking for.
