Excel Password Cracker

Interestingly, also had a complicated Excel sheet full of formulas etc. You could open it, but can't modify the formulas due to a password.

Copypaste to a new (empty) workbook, and all is well.

So, it seems the only way to really protect Excel sheets will be to put them on an USB drive and lock said USB drive up in a safe.

Hi all,

I know this thread is a bit old, but with that said, I thought I'd just finally post that I have removed the password by using the following program: Passware Kit Forensic 13.5 (64-bit)

Quick and easy!
Open program, select file, removes automatically BUT saves it as a different file name (but adds -unprotected to the file name)

Just FYI! :)

At $995 for Passware Kit Forensic 13.5 (64-bit) I'll pass, thank you.
Don't think my contact list is worth that much. :D

If the file is old, perhaps, it is an .xls file with a 40-bit encryption key. In this case you don't have to search for the password set for it. Just decrypt the data using an online service. The result is guaranteed and does not depend on the password complexity. I would recommend AccessBack.

If it is an .xlsx file, I can recommend just gpu password recovery. Yes, use of video cards is obligatory if the searching speed is of importance.

Even with a gpu there are no guarantees. If a decent password was used then it could take thousands of years to crack.
