So, our exchange very recently got upgraded to support 10mbps. So this morning when I phoned telkom to bump me up from 4mbps to 10mbps, she confirmed that my exchange does support 10mbps, but it gives errors while trying to get me upgraded. Ever happened to anyone else here?

Nope never happened to me, I just woke up one morning and was greeted by a nice 10MB line :)

Ask aunty to put you onto ADSL2+ modulation - then they may give you 6Meg.

Major issue tho is that the backhaul from your exchange MAY not be 10Meg capable.

Does your router support ADSL2+? That is usually the problem. They are probably still working on the exchange.

Ask for a port reset, that helped me on 3 separate occasions, bumping me up to 6, then 8 and then 10mbps. This was over the course of a month.

Who did you call? my exchange has been on 10 megs for many months now and stuck on 4 megs

there's that link that shows what your exchange is capable of.

i can see the exchange from my window.

yet no 10Mbps. everytime i call them (different operators), they tell me the same thing.

Probably quick to ask a friend like I did who said they already been upgraded to 6 megs while I am stuck on 4 :(

Well I've got a mate who works for an ISP, and he could check the stats of my exchange, and it clearly states that it supports 10mbps. :-)

Now its just a matter of getting it activated.

I'm still stuck on 4Mbps even though my exchange is 10Mbps enabled. How do they determine who should and who shouldn't get 10Mbps when the exchange support it?

My stats:

Operational Mode G.Dmt.Bis
Annex Type AnnexA
Upstream 511800
Downstream 4095900
SNR Margin(Upstream) 34.5 dB
SNR Margin(Downstream) 27.90 dB
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 0.0 dB
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 10.5 dB

PM me your DSL number. Lets see if you can get 10Mbps. Might be very simple to get it done.

Well can u get me 2Mbps line speed. I have the line - just not the speed... And telkomISP but no joy :(

Oh. And the telkom availability checker says maximum line speed in my area is 1Mbps and I am on a 2Mbps line. How does that work - when the telkom rep assured me I will be able to get 2Mbps?
