Hi There

Just called Telkom and made a request from them to upgrade my line from the current ADSL package to VDSL.

Does anyone have a good indication of how long this takes (am in the E.C.) as when I spoke to them they told me that it might take up to a week... Then I asked why and they said no it depends on when a technician is available and then I asked well at what point will he be available, why does it take a week to do things on a business line... The response, oh no it is not a physical change at the exchange that needs to be done, it is a technical process within their system and they have a lot of work to do at the moment...

Now I'm really lost because if it is basically a few keys on a keyboard why does it take so long? Should i call again lol? :)

(must mention that my exchange already supports a connection for me of up to 40mbps)

when i tried mine...they put me on 20mbps ADSL2+ for about a week.

then they tried to chagne the line over to VDSL and the line died. so had to go back to ADSL2+

all in all, bank on 1 to 2 weeks.

Thanks for the feedback, that sounds like a sad story wow. I have called again though and the guy said it will be done in 72 hours (excl weekends). Lets wait and see if that is the case!

(i'm a stones throw from a brand new exchange that's been run in for about 3 months now - exciting)

I was also told 72 business hours, got SMS to say what date it would be done (more than 72 business hours ahead) and then it was actually done in a little over 24 (real) hours.

Thanks for your update, sounds like you had it good though :)

I waited patiently on Monday... Nothing... called yesterday morning and at 8am, there comes VDSL with my line syncing with an excellent connection.

BUT...

No data connectivity. I've tried 3 ADSL packages, capped from different providers (All big ones not like JoeSoap ISP)... No authentication. Tried the telkom guest account... No authentication.

So, since then I have had no internet which has been wonderful seeing as though I have very poor cell signal and a lot of work to do...

Spent about an hour fiddling with things, spent 2+ hours on the phone with Telkom being bounced around in circles and told everything from my username is wrong, to my modem is broken, to the isp is having problems, to "well the line is syncing so what must do?" to "well you could put me through to your supervisor" to "gets hung up on", spent 30 mins on the phone with VOX and been through two 2nd level tech support people at Telkom...

Guess I will have to wait and see if these clowns can fix their stuff today or if they even pitch up as stated...

*sigh*

I have the same situation at home currently. Upgraded to VDSL on Monday. Sync fine, but no data. Tried over the phone with Axxess to resolve this. Nothing worked.

I have asked them to put my line back to 10Mbps ADSL. I simply cannot work without internet at home. Plus all my entertainment is internet related. Pretty frustrating.

Well... Believe it or not, Telkom just told me that one of their Satellites have been struck by lightning in outer space...

Is there lightning in space? o.O

Anyways, the guy just said you cannot believe how the calls are just coming in for as they have lost connection whole areas of the country.

Grreeeattt...... I wonder if this is just another story, now i really have heard it all from Telkom...

I had similar issue with the line syncing but no data. It turned out to be an issue on telkom's side about the change from 10mbps to 20mbps, there had an order on the telkom system stating this was a new line and not an upgrade and once they deleted that from the system my internet was up and running again

Hmm, thanks for that... Which center / department / hive did you manage to get that done through, can you remember?

When I asked them to check the verification on my line yesterday, there was an issue and they said it was resolved but now I wonder...

It was 3 days for me in PE.
2 days of which was Telkom telling my isp that my modem was off so they couldn't do the change over.
Not that my modem was ever off though.

I'd also like to add that they have no record of the everything that was gone through yesterday... To date I have a fault on my line with no information attached :)

*gives up*

Does your account dial up but just not provide you with internet?
If so then chances are the issue is with your line needing to be verified, when I got my line changed from 20Mbit ADSL2+ to 20Mbit VDSL I needed to verify my line but they were unable to see that it needed to be verified until the guy in the call centre changed it from VDSL to ADSL 2+ and then back to VDSL again.

So give that a try.

If the account does not dial up at all, make sure that you have the correct VLAN settings, it should be 835 and priority should be 0 although I have heard the priority can be anything between 0-7 and makes no difference.

Called the sales line (activation center) and asked them to check on this. The line was migrated, it was not a new line request so it was processed correctly. Said there is a code attached from the technician when he visited the exchanged so the service is definitely active and verification is definitely complete. Something else it seems but thanks!

it should be 835

Dude... I could hug you, no homo...

I have literally wanted to cry through all of this it's been so frustrating.

I SPECIFICALLY asked both telkom and vox about the Vlan option and if this should be ticked, they both told me no.

I ticked the box, put it on 835 and there we go:

How can i ever repay you for this? :/ Omg legend!

Could you post an international speedtest please?

ic you're getting a similar International speed to me.

Is that right?
I was expecting a similar or at least close to my Local speeds for international, not less than half.

What speed is your line syncing at and what are the stats BTW?

I easily get more than 16Mbit down on a local speedtest on my 20Mbit VDSL - although now I am currently on 20Mbit ADSL 2+ although I still get more than 16Mbit down locally.

Are you getting a full 20Mbit sync or is Vox acting up a bit?

2.4 Line Rate (Down / Up) 20480 kbps / 2048 kbps
2.5 Noise Margin (Down / Up) 17.5 dB / 24.4 dB
2.6 Attenuation (Down / Up) 27.8 dB / 56.7 dB
2.7 Power (Down / Up) 11.8 dBm / 6.3 dBm

I think that is a good connection? I am using a 40Gig VOX trial account at the moment, might be why :)
