With Lost Ark getting released on 11 February and South Africans not being able to download the game due to licensing issues, I'm considering using something like ExitLag so that I can install and play the game. Now I always see ExitLag getting advertised on some channels I watch on YouTube, but I would like to know if anyone here has ever used it and apart from letting you play games that are region locked, does it improve ping a bit with games that only have servers in EU/NA for example?

Hi
Been using exit-lag for the past 3 months to Russian servers. Lag is slightly more than to the WoW EU severs (230 vs 170) but it’s at least not in the 600s.

In terms of stability, I’ve only had 2 disconnects that was exit-lag related.

I don't think ExitLag would let you download the game because it's not a "real" VPN, it only routes your games traffic, You would need something like NordVPN first and then after that you can use ExitLag.

Im also sitting here wanting to play Lost Ark, but it not being available in SA is an issue.

Playing it with a vpn, while not ideal, is not the main issue.

Buying it and installing it seems to be as it is not available on SA steam.
How would one go about that?
Normally you need a transaction, buy and pay ie with card from another coutry, to change steam's country.

Point me to the solution and I'd be happy for now.

Lets hope it will work the same.

I see on the site if you go to the founder option you have "buy on amazon" and "buy on steam" options.
Steam obviously will not work as you require a steam account in the correct region or it will tell you "This item is currently unavailable in your region"

But I guess there is a standalone launcher as you have the Amazon option, which should make the VPN route viable.

You can do everything with exit lag.
1. Create new German Steam account with exit lag
2. Buy founders if you want via g2a or whatever
3. Configure exit lag to route your steam traffic, browser traffic and lost ark traffic via germany

Game itself isnt region locked, just getting it onto your Steam account.

Aka, use VPN to create a new Steam account in a supported region, add Lost Ark.

You can now use your direct internet with this new steam account to play Lost Ark.

Also ExitLag, and other services like it, are going to do nothing for Lost Ark. Its hosted on AWS. You are already going to the closest AWS node and then using Amazon routing. You not going to get better latency.

So I use any VPN, create a new steam account, while logged into a VPN, once the account is created, I do not have to use the VPN anymore?

To add to this thread incase anybody is wondering. I can confirm that you only need the VPN to get a steam account in any country that is not blocked. I used Germany. After the game is in your library no VPN is required to download or launch the game.

Myself and a few friends managed to get on last night without any VPN active

Sorry to be the grumpy old man, but is all this effort worth it?
So far all the gameplay I've seen looks pretty crap. Like it's trying to hard to compensate for something with over the top attack visual effects?

The effort of getting out of bed is worth it, as it enables you to play good games.
The effort of making dinner is worth it, as it satiates hunger, is delicious, and compared to takeaways is more healthy and cheaper.
Taking a shower prevents you from losing friends or your significant other, you smelly bastard.
Taking a **** just feels good when it's over. You feel light as a feather, and you feel that feeling of accomplishment as you watch the water rise in the toilet, before the blockage you just created gives way to the weight of the water just before the toilet overflows.

Does playing Lost Ark give you any of that? Especially the sense of accomplishment?
Because it sounds like more effort to get it running than I would like to spend on something mediocre.

shem.

All I can say about it, I have a couple of youtube guys I watch when wanting to play a game, watching their reviews of it before making a decision. I have come to have more or less the same taste as the guys I watch for reviews and therefore their reviews of games normally end up being like my own about a game. The guys I follow all had more or less the same opinion about the game, that it is actually a decent MMO, and based on that I will give it a go and check it out. That being said, after the whole New World disaster, I do not know how much control Amazon has over the actual game, as I do not trust their track record with games

Does yours also say "from the library of"? Well that's easily fixed if you edit the acf files which I'll probably do post launch tomorrow.

If you ask that question, then its probably not going to be worth it for you.
You're probably going to get frustrated with the hoops to jump through, ending up hating the game before you even started playing.

I looked at reviews and decided to do the effort of jumping on the Russian servers.
Compared to the NA/EU Steam version, the russian version is: Buy a subscription to ExitLag, then every .... single ..... night start ExitLag -> start the translation program -> wait for ExitLag to complete routers -> start My.Games center -> click the English button on the translation program to translate russian to english and only then press Play for the game.

This took about 5min-ish every single night, but it is/was worth it for me because I really like the game from story to game play (though the Dark and Shadow towers had me cursing alot at times).

So, like most games, if you feel pressured or manipulated into playing it, you're most likely going to end up hating it.
