Exorbitant Amount

I'm not running away from paying. I'm being ripped off and I must accept... I'm not naive. I got plenty ty quotes nit even amounting to 10 000.

Did they quote for using original Toyota parts, replacing body panels and bumpers instead of trying (and almost always failing) to hammer out the dents?

It's inflated for a reason. They have to repair the car to the same condition it was before the accident. That means they have to use original parts and specific paints. Usually, the manufacturers charge silly prices for those parts.

If you do it at your local panel beater they do it cheaply with whatever parts and paints.

Someone crashed my dad's car, and the insurance wrote the car off due to the high repair costs.
The same place that quoted insurance also told my dad that if he decides to keep the car, and bring it in for repairs, they can do it for cheaper than what they quoted for insurance.
Why? Because then they can get away with not using original parts and replacing everything. Insurance clients expect an as-new repair job, and people are quick to complain to their insurance when they don't get it.

My dad did end up keeping it and repairing it, since he wouldn't be able to replace the car with a similar one. The repair job looks good from a distance ( 2 meters or so away) but you can see it was worked on if you look closer. If it was through the insurance, I would have told him to send it back and let them do a proper job.

What quote would be considered valid without the car having been inspected? OP has no idea of actual damage to the vehicle, short of it being simply a scratch. That wouldn't be anywhere close to even R10k though.
He/She is entitled to see the quote for the damages to the other car and he can base it on that.

For sure - but it's now more than a year since the accident and since the repairs have already been completed.
So the argument is, unfortunately for the OP, academic
