There is no fixed way to determine what constitutes middle class. Broadly it is simply those that fall between the bottom and top bands. In South Africa that could definitely be someone earning R10,000.

This. It's no coincidence that recent price hikes have come at the same time that eish-toll went live. More importantly, that people are just refusing to pay their invoices.

+100. I now travel 60km a day for a round trip. That is around R75.00 just to get to work and back spent on fuel......

I'm on R90 (give or take) atm.. its frustrating...
I'm moving closer to work so that its R24/day vs R40/day excl maintenance.. ironically the savings made go into the rental change staying closer so not winning really..
Is the cost of electricity less than the cost of petrol to travel the same distance?

The Biggest issue is the amount of KMs you can go before you have to do a 8 hour recharge.
FFS, if the busses ran to where I work I could be paying around R25 / day for a round trip
Hopefully the myCiti bus routes are finished at the end of this year when we move offices even further away

MyCiti must build the road that goes along the N1. Getting from CC to CBD is a pain as you have to go around Milnerton. They've made provision for it. It's in the plans. But I doubt I'll ever see it realised.
Edit: Their excuse is of course that there is a railway. I don't want to use metrotrail.

Currently in negotiations to cut down my daily commute from Rigel N1 to Corlett due to petrol price, e-tolls and the stress of driving. If that doesn't go as plan I'm also secretly negotiating a new job closer to home. 
This is the effect of the ANC's myopia. As if cost of living isn't high enough already, stupid politicians taking away our choices while making it more difficult for hardworking people to earn a living.

What's up with the sudden traffic backups on the N1 South at Brakfontein in the mornings? I see it when I'm giving the highways a miss by using Hans Strydom and N14 and R55....
